[Spontaneous pregnancy after laparoscopic salpingostomy and electrocoagulation of the ovarian surfaces in a patients with polycystic ovary syndrome].

We report a case of a 25 year-old woman with repeated ovarian stimulation and laparoscopy because of anovulatory and tubal infertility due to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), who then spontaneously conceived. The complex nature of the multivariate cause of sterility is discussed together with therapeutic possibilities both in terms of the case-history and the literature.

[Neurosurgical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. A comparative study of alcohol block, neurectomy and electrocoagulation].

The objective was to assess the present condition of patients previously treated with neurosurgical procedures for trigeminal neuralgia (TN). Between 1976 and 1991, 383 patients were treated for TN at the Department of Neurosurgery, Hvidovre Hospital. The latest surgical intervention performed was radiofrequency coagulation (64%), neurectomy (18%), alcohol block (16%), trigeminal tractotomy (1%), and microvascular decompression (1%). Questionnaires were sent to 316 patients treated neurosurgically for trigeminal neuralgia during the 16 year period. After radiofrequency coagulation, neurectomy and alcohol block, 83, 51 and 42% respectively experienced a pain free postoperative period. At present 49, 17 and 18% were without pain and 33, 21 and 36% had less pain compared with the preoperative state. Sequelae were described in 65, 57 and 49% of the patients. The four most common sequelae were hypaesthesia, paraesthesia, eye complaints, and dysaesthesia. If relevant pharmacotherapy has been tried without benefit, radiofrequency coagulation may still be considered as a treatment of trigeminal neuralgia.

Long-term effects of interval laparoscopic sterilization by bipolar electrocoagulation on menstruation.

We studied the menstrual patterns of 258 patients before and after laparoscopic sterilization by bipolar diathermy. The observed changes were obtained were mainly related to the kind of contraception used before sterilization. The frequency of menstrual disorders after sterilization were compared to those in a control group of non-sterilized women matched for age and parity: 12--42 months after the operation, the sterilized women did not have more irregular cycles, menorrhagia, metrorrhagia, hysmenorrhea or dyspareunia than the control group but the sterilized women did have a slightly higher incidence of polymenorrhea (p less than 0.05) and menses lasting less than 3 days (p less than 0.01). We conclude that interval laparoscopic sterilization by bipolar diathermy can be recommended for patients with normal menstrual cycles.

Treatment of orange II azo-dye by electrocoagulation (EC) technique in a continuous flow cell using sacrificial iron electrodes.

This paper describes the EC treatment of orange II dye solution in a flow cell using sodium chloride as an internal electrolyte. In this technique dye solutions were passed through a flow-through EC apparatus consisting of a flow-through cell, the electrode assembly, the feed pump and the DC power supply unit. The cell contained five parallel iron electrodes, which form four parallel cells. Experiments were run at 25 degrees C under various electrolyte concentrations, dye concentrations, current density, flow rate of the solution, and pH at dc current range of 2-5A. Various number of recycles of the treated dye solution were also performed at the same dc current range. Optimum conditions to get high removal efficiency were experimentally determined. It was found that 98.5% of the dye was removed from the solution under the optimum conditions. The residue from a blank run (pH = 7.3) and a dye added run (pH = 8.5) were collected by vacuum filtration and analyzed by XRD after drying in a vacuum desiccator. The XRD data indicated the presence of mainly maghemite (gamma-Fe2O3) and magnetite (Fe3O4) in the residue. However, there is not much difference between the X-ray diffractograms of the blank sample and the dye-containing residue to warrant any conclusions therefrom with regard to the interactions between the oxides and the dye molecules.
