The paper gives an overview on the pharmaceutical chemistry of of dihydropyridine Ca-antagonists through the chapters of history and preparation, structure and properties, metabolism, therapeutical use and analysis. In the author's concept the paper represents a model for postgraduate education. Consequently, after proper volume-cutting, it covers the complete material for undergraduate courses.
The authors examine the utility and application of pharmaceutical chemistry is taught at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Semmelweis University, in the everyday pharmacy practice. Selected examples of the professional chemical knowledge necessary in different activities of pharmacists (as in drug quality control, storage of medicines, preparation of drugs in pharmacy and their issue (expenditure) to the patient etc.) are reviewed. Their experimental work on determination of expiry of an "ex tempore" prepared medicine demonstrates that it is possible to meet the principles of Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP). The paper is based on certain chapters of diploma work of H. B., tutor T. N. K.
The aim of this article is to trace some features of the historical development of phytochemistry. In the period from 1870 to 1920 pharmacy at universities attempted a new phase, the emancipation as an independent science. The article analyses the contributions to phytochemistry by the professors E. Schmidt (1845-1921), H. Thomas (1859-1931), H. Beckurts (1855-1929) and their research schools as well as those of K. Polstorff (1846-1911) and m. Scholtz (1861-1919).
There are several procedures for the chemical discovery and design of new drugs from the point of view of the pharmaceutical or medicinal chemistry. They range from classical methods to the very new ones, such as molecular modeling or high throughput screening. In this review, we will consider some historical approaches based on the screening of natural products, the chances for luck, the systematic screening of new chemical entities and serendipity. Another group comprises rational design, as in the case of metabolic pathways, conformation versus configuration and, finally, a brief description on available new targets to be carried out. In each approach, the structure of some examples of clinical interest will be shown.

The paper represents the 3rd part of a series about agents acting on the central nervous system. This time the neuroleptics are surveyed. As previously, the material is divided into chapters of history, preparation; structure-properties-activity; therapeutical use; analysis.
The paper represents the 2nd part of a series about agents acting on the central nervous system. As previously, the material is divided into chapters of hystory, preparation; structure-properties-activity; therapeutical use; analysis.
