Degenerative processes in the corpus striatum, neuroleptics drugs, thyroid disease, and Parkinson's disease are all causes of abnormal spontaneous movements in the elderly. Differential diagnosis is essential for selecting the proper therapy, and the patient's history often provides the key.
The authors' own findings and the data available in the literature as to movement diseases (MD) in animals and man were reviewed in the context of P. K. Anokhin's theory of functional systems. The functional system of the human body's gravity center is detailed. There is evidence for that disintegration processes underlying MD first occur in the mnestic sphere since due to genetic and/or ontogenetic causes, memory has no preserved no motor programme required to achieve the end net efficiency of performance of this functional system,--to maintain the definite position of the gravity center of the body and its related vegetative status upon stress-induced vestibular exposures. Based on the above concepts of the pathogenesis of MD, its preventive measures have been proposed and tested, which include drug (nootropic agents) and non-drug (a special complex of physical exercises for children aged 2 to 7 years, which will form permanent motor programs in memory in definite periods of their ontogenesis) measures.

Voiding dysfunction associated with Parkinson's disease has been well described in male patients. Few studies detail voiding dysfunction in female Parkinson patients. Apparent differences between patients with Parkinson's subtypes have also not been sufficiently defined. The majority of female Parkinson patients who have urinary symptoms (>70%) will manifest symptomatic urgency with or without urge incontinence. The remaining patients will have mixed irritative and obstructive or purely obstructive symptoms. Urodynamic evaluation demonstrates detrusor hyperreflexia in 70%-80% of female patients. However, women with Parkinson-related syndromes demonstrate detrusor hypocontractility or areflexia in 20%-30% of cases. Electromyography reveals sphincteric dysfunction (pseudodyssynergia, bradykinesia) in 30%-50% of female Parkinson patients. Also, in patients with Parkinson-related syndromes a high prevalence of peripheral denervation can be documented on electromyographic study of the pelvic floor. Voiding dysfunction associated with Parkinson's disease in female patients is complex and not always congruent with symptoms. Urodynamic evaluation is crucial to fully elucidate lower urinary tract dysfunction in female patients with Parkinson's and Parkinson-related disorders.

The authors conducted comprehensive treatment of 335 patients with traumatical injuries of the nervous trunks and plexi and of 361 patients with sacro-lumbar radiculoneuritis with a disturbances of the peroneus nerve. Positive results were attained in 80-85% of the patients with motor disorders when programmed bioelectrical stimulation was included into the therapeutical process. The possible mechanisms of action in automatized movements and disturbances of the motor functions are discussed.
