[Analysis on therapeutic effect of substance-partitioned moxibustion at Guanyuan (CV 4) and shenque (CV 8) for treatment of primary dysmenorrhea of cold-damp type].

OBJECTIVE: To observe clinical therapeutic effect of substance-partitioned moxibustion on primary dysmenorrhea (PD). Methods One hundred and thirty-eight cases of PD were randomly divided into two groups, the treatment group (n=78) were treated with substance-partitioned moxibustion at Guanyuan (CV 4) and Shenque (CV 8), once a day; and the control group (n=60) treated with oral administration of Yueyueshu Powder, twice a day, 10 g each time. They were treated for 3 menstrual cycles. RESULTS: The total effective rate and the index of therapeutic effect were 96.1% and 90.8% in the treatment group, and 88.3% and 76.2% in the control group, respectively, with a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Clinical therapeutic effect of substance-partitioned moxibustion on primary dysmenorrhea is obvious.

Long-term assessment of a damp-stored, albumin-coated, knitted vascular graft.

In a previous study the authors reported greater endothelialization and thrombus-free surface area in albumin-coated grafts compared with collagen-coated grafts after 1 month's aortic interposition. Another study was undertaken to determine whether these differences persisted after a 6-month implantation period. A 6 cm segment of either an albumin-coated [n = 6] or a collagen-coated [n = 4] graft was implanted into a canine descending thoracic aorta for 6 months. Light micrographs from multiple sections of each explanted graft were scored from 1 to 4, least to most, for tissue ingrowth, perigraft inflammation, and capsular thickness. Using computer planimetry, luminal thrombus free surface area and endothelial coverage were calculated from gross and electron photomicrographs, respectively. The results were averaged and expressed as mean +/- standard error (SEM). After 6 months, no significant differences were noted between the albumin-coated grafts and the collagen-coated grafts, both of which were durable and served equally well as scaffolds for vascular remodeling and tissue incorporation. The authors conclude that the safety, ease of handling, low porosity, low thrombogenicity, and durability of the albuminated grafts warrant their clinical trial.

[Cardiac trans-esophageal pacing: significance of systemic damping of artifacts from stimulating impulses for ECG trace recordings recorded from a pacing trans-esophageal electrode. III].

Utilization of diagnostic abilities of the cardiac trans-esophageal pacing is related to necessity of obtaining the readable and stable ecg tracing from a pacing electrode. For that reason to evaluate the value of an electronic artifact suppression circuit of a pacing impulse from oesophageal ecg recording authors compared quality of obtained recordings using a new method with a traditional one. Trans-esophageal cardiac pacemaker SP-5 made by OBR, Temed, Zabrze was used. Atria and ventricles were stimulated using a constant pacing cycle length and a single programmable impulse. In 58 persons ecg transoesophageal recordings were compared during atrial pacing, and in 45 during ventricular one. Quality of obtained ecg recordings was estimated using 4-degree scale of which first three degrees comprised recordings the esophageal pacing electrode by a traditional method were unfit for diagnostic interpretation. As opposed to the pacing electrode allowed to obtain recordings with quality of which was suitable for diagnostic interpretation in all patients. Obtained results indicate on, thanks to the new recording circuit, existence of conditions to substantial extension of diagnostic abilities of transoesophageal cardiac pacing.
