[Lipid free-radical oxidation in cerebral arteriosclerosis patients in relation to the stage of the disease].

Patients with cerebral atherosclerosis were examined for the parameters of lipid and peroxidation metabolism and their correlation with the gravity of the disease. The findings obtained included the development of moderate hyperlipidemia and intensification of lipid free radical oxidation. The levels of hyperlipidemia showed no significant variations in patients with cerebral atherosclerosis of varying severity whereas the levels of free radical oxidation of lipids directly correlated with the severity of the disease. The processes of free radical oxidation play a significant role in the pathogenesis of cerebral atherosclerosis.

[An experimental study on cerebral arteriosclerosis].

The experimental study suggested that it would be difficult to induce atherosclerosis in the cerebral arteries. Although the atherosclerotic lesions on the aortas were evident in the experimental rabbits of the hypertension plus hypercholesterolemia group, evidence of early atherosclerosis was found on the intracranial small arteries in only three out of the 10 rabbits of this group. Under the microscope widespread thickening and contraction were seen on almost all the small cerebral and cerebral parenchymal arteries. Hyaline degeneration could be seen in some of the arteries. Most of the cerebral parenchymal capillary endothelia were swollen and some of these cells contained lipid drops. All of these pathological changes could not be found in the authors earlier experiment in the group of the rabbits without hypertension. It was, therefore, surmised that both hypertension and hyperlipidemia would be two of the important factors in inducing the lesions in the cerebral arteries, but although such factors would be coordinative, hypertension might be more important in the process of damaging the cerebral arteries and leading to their degenerative changes.

[Effect of luliberin in the treatment of mental disorders in cerebral arteriosclerosis].

The article presents the results of investigation into hypothalamic-hypophyseal-adrenal system in cerebral atherosclerosis leading to mental disorders. A hypothesis was put forward assuming a major role of luliberins in the pathogenesis of these disorders. Reported are the data on practical application of luliberin in the therapy of mental disorders in cerebral atherosclerosis. Clinical observations and inferences were confirmed in biochemical studies.

[Clinical and rheoencephalographical evaluation of prodectin in the treatment of cerebral arteriosclerosis].

The reported investigations were carried out in a group of patients with evidence of cerebral circulatory disturbances aged from 43 to 72 years treated with Prodectin for 5-7 weeks. The dynamics of the clinical manifestations and REG curves were analysed before and after treatment. REG investigations were done using a II type rheograph with Fc-M leads. The basic parameters of the REG waves and reaction to nitroglycerin were evaluated. The results of REG were compared with the results of similar investigations in an age-matched control group. In nearly half the patients a tendency was observed for REG tracing normalization wit clinical improvement. Most frequently shortening of the ascending part of the REG wave was observed.

[Correlations of clinico-functional manifestations of cerebral arteriosclerosis and microcirculatory indicators in patients with a history of myocardial infarction].

Combined estimation of signs of cerebral circulatory disorders, the state of microcirculation and a degree of CHD was done in 111 male patients after myocardial infarction. Disorders in the system of the terminal bed which corresponded to the severity of clinical manifestations of disorders of coronary and cerebral circulation, were revealed in the overwhelming majority of the patients. The most noticeable changes in the terminal blood flow were observed in patients with marked clinical signs of atherosclerosis of the cerebral vessels. They also had a more severe course of postinfarction cardiosclerosis. Since noticeable microcirculatory disorders were detected in all these patients, it could be assumed that they were suggestive of the presence and severity of atherosclerosis. Symptoms of CNS lesion developed against this background and depended on the features of cerebral circulation and some other factors.
