Attempts to reproduce inflammatory colitis have created many experimental models. Since the pioneer work of Morris et al. (1989), trinitrobenzenosulfonic (TNBS) solutions have been used with different dosages. The aims of this work were standardize the induction of colitis, evaluate the clinical and intestinal effects of different doses and verify the reproducibility of the intestinal inflammatory process. Wistar rats were inoculated endo rectally with 2.5 ml solutions of different concentrations of TNBS and ethanol, and the rats were sacrificed after 14 days. According to the solution concentrations of TNBS (mg) and ethanol (%), six groups of animals were established: Control (saline), 30 mg/30%, 30 mg/40%, 30 mg/50%, 50 mg/10% and 50 mg/30%. Statistical analysis of food ingestion showed no differences between groups (p = 0.247). The 30/50 group presented greater weight loss when compared to 50/10 and 50/30 groups (p = 0.012). Groups 30/50 and 30/40 showed greater degrees of macroscopic lesion than control and 50/10 group (p < 0.05). Histologic lesion was not uniform to all rats regardless of the solution employed. Group 50/10 presented the less severe histologic alterations; on the other hand, 30/40 and 30/50 groups had important changes on mucosal thickness, on vascularization and ulceration. The authors conclude that experimental colitis with TNBS 1) cause intestinal lesions that are not uniform to all animals, although they may be reproduced in many of them; 2) with the same doses of TNBS, the increase in ethanol concentrations leads to a greater inflammatory process, intestinal thickness, vascularization, abscess formation and intestinal ulceration; 3) 50/10 and 50/30 solutions make less severe lesions when compared to 30/40 and 30/50 solutions; 4) 30/50 solution was the best one, as it produces inflammation 90% of the animals, increases in wall thickness in 50%, abscess in 70% and ulceration in 38%.

Iliac crest biopsy and clinical laboratory investigations are the important criteria to diagnose metabolic osteopathies and osteoporosis. The technic of iliac crest biopsy, the histological technic and the histomorphological and histometric criteria will be discussed. The necessity to compare clinical data with the histomorphology and the importance of surgical pathology, especially osteopathology, will be emphasized.
A technic was described for repetitive bone sampling in beagle dogs. The procedure has provided ideal samples for quantitative histologic technics following 135 biopsies.

The bony refill of the distraction-space in leg-lengthening operations is analysed by X-ray control and histological technic as well in animal experiments as clinical patients. Based on our observations a theory of the formation of bone is postulated: We figured out, that a) presumable besides the periosteal potentials of bone formation there are also other active mechanisms of bone growth to be found. b) frequently histological recognised formations of bones cannot yet be proved by X-ray, that means, that the X-ray changes follow the histological ones. c) optimal formation of callus needs most possible stability during the time of consolidation. d) most careful distraction prevents deformities.
The effect of medroxyprogesterone in 14 patients with hepatic cirrhosis demonstrated with histological technics was studied. Eight of the 14 patients were controlled over a period of one year and three months. Six of this eight patients presented subjective clinical improvement and the ascitis disappeared in 5/7 cases, so that the doses of lactona could be diminished. Three of the male patients recovered their sexual potency although all were in alcoholic abstinence for more than one year. Histologically 5/6 patients presented a diminishing fibrosis in the control biopsy and the 3 patients controlled with hemodynamic studies presented lower portal pression. We didn't found secondary effects, except obesity in 3 cases. We concluded that it would be important to continue this experience with a greater number of patients and adding appropriate biochemical controls.
We report two cases of oligodendroglioma-like meningioma revealed by symptoms of increased intracranial pressure, progressive hemiparesia and partial epileptic seizures. Brain CT-scan or scintigraphy and carotid arteriography were suggestive of a convexity meningioma. One patient had received radiation treatment for scalp tinea capitis 25 years previously. In spite of complete surgical removal, the tumor recurred in both cases respectively 17 years and 18 months later. The two patients were operated again, and one underwent a complementary radiotherapy. Pathologic diagnosis was particularly difficult in the first case where the pattern at conventional histologic technics was that of oligodendroglioma. On the occasion of recurrence, immuno-histochemistry and ultrastructural studies were performed. The tumor was positive for epithelial membrane antigen (E.M.A) and cytokeratin, but was negative for glial fibrillary acidic (G.F.A.) protein, S 100 protein (S 100), neuron-specific enolase (N.S.E.), vimentin, anti-LEU-7 (N.H.K.1), and neurofilaments (N.F.). Electron microscopy showed closely adjacent cells with tonofilaments and numerous desmosomes. These findings permitted to establish the diagnosis of oligodendroglioma-like meningioma instead of oligodendroglioma. In the second case, the histologic pattern was also reminiscent of oligodendroglioma, but presence of few cellular whorls in some part of the tumor permitted the correct diagnosis. The pathogenesis of this atypical form of meningioma, its tendency for recurrence, and usefulness of radiotherapy are discussed and literature is reviewed.
