Studies on 74 patients with chronic gastritis showed that the disease was accompanied by disorders of the microcirculatory bed of the bulbar conjunctiva characterized by the appearance of perivascular edema, inhomogeneity of the vascular caliber and coiling, change of arteriolovenular ratios, the formation of vascular glomerules, neglected zones, intravascular aggregation of erythrocytes and microthromboses. These changes were combined with disorders of the end blood flow of the gastric mucosa detected in its specimens. A degree of the above disorders depended on the expression of exacerbation and period of disease, peculiarities of lesion of the gastric mucosa, secretory and motor functions of the stomach.
The author presents an analysis of the results of microphotographing of the vessels of bulbar conjunctiva, the determination of the rate of isotope resorption from intradermic depot, transcapillary metabolism of protein and fluid, and acid-base balance. In spread tumor process and concomitant inflammation intravascular aggregation of erythrocytes was noted in bulbar conjunctiva, and sometimes metabolic acidosis too. Moreover, in widespread cancer of the lung a delayed resorption of the isotope from intradermic depot was observed, whereas with concomitant inflammatory process--its acceleration and increased permeability of blood capillaries.
We used confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) to investigate the morphology and three-dimensional relationships of the microcirculation of the superficial layers of the rat brain cortex in vivo. In anesthetized rats equipped with a closed cranial window (dura mater removed), after i.v. injection of 3 mg/100 g of body weight of fluorescein in 0.5 ml of saline, serial optical sections of the brain cortex intraparenchymal microcirculation were taken. Excitation was at a wavelength of 488 nm (argon laser), and emission was collected above 515 nm. CLSM provided images of brain vessels with sufficient signal-to-noise ratio for three-dimensional reconstructions down to a depth of 250 microns beneath the surface of the brain. Compared to conventional fluorescence microscopy, CLSM has a much higher axial resolution and higher depth of penetration. Laser light-induced intravascular aggregates, irregularities of erythrocyte flow, or microvascular occlusions ("light and dye injury") were not apparent in the current experimental paradigm. CLSM is a promising new tool for in vivo visualization of the cerebral microcirculation. Future studies have to characterize the potential damage to the tissue dye mechanisms.
We have made the diagnosis of transcapillary flow disturbances in the lungs of lung cancer patients with the available noninvasive method of videobiomicroscopy of eye conjunctiva with further morphometric processing of obtained data using PC. 77 patients with lung cancer have been studied. Using videobiomicroscopy we calculated the size of venous capillary sacculations, the square of capillary glomerules (Sg), the amplitude (A), the 'length' of the twisted part of a microvessel (Lt), the amplitude-length coefficient (Ca), the frequency-length coefficient (Cf), the size of venous capillaries (V), intravascular conglomeration of aggregated erythrocytes (conglomerate), RBC aggregation coefficient (Cs) and the degree of sludge. To evaluate the data obtained, a comparative morphologic investigation of histologic samples taken from the intact areas of the lung parenchyma has been carried out. We diagnosed moderate or determined disturbances in the capillary flow that were confirmed by microscopy.
