[Dynamics of soil P pool in a long-term fertilizing experiment of wheat-maize rotation. I. Crop yield effect of fertilizer P and dynamics of soil total P and inorganic P].

The effects of long-term applying fertilizer P and manure on the pools of soil total P and inorganic P and the crop yield in rotation of winter wheat-summer maize-->spring maize were studied. The results showed that the pool of soil total P and inorganic P were increased by applying fertilizer P and manure, and the phosphorus mostly accumulated in soil was inorganic P. The critical amounts of fertilizer P (P2O5) for balancing soil P were 94.7 kg.hm-2 to winter wheat-summer maize and 51.5 kg.hm-2 to spring maize. Based on regression equations, the application rates of fertilizer P (P2O5) for economic optimum and highest yields were 135.8 and 149.8 kg.hm-2 to winter wheat-summer maize, and 88.6 and 95.9 kg.hm-2 to spring maize, respectively.

[Dynamics of soil P pool in a long-term fertilizing experiment of wheat-maize rotation. II. Dynamics of soil Olsen-P and inorganic P].

Studies on the dynamics of soil Olsen-P and different form inorganic P in the long-term fertilizing experiment of winter wheat-summer maize-->spring maize rotation showed that the contents of Olsen-P and inorganic P were changed by the accumulation and consumption of P in soil. In P0 treatments, Olsen-P decreased gradually, and then, trended to the critical level. When fertilizing amount was basically equal to the intake by crops, the balance of Olsen-P was dynamically maintained. The contents of Olsen-P and inorganic P were enhanced, when applied P was larger than the P intake by crops. The major contents of residual inorganic P were Ca2-P and Ca8-P, both accounting for 52.3% of total inorganic P in average, and Ca8-P accounting for 78.3%. Al-P and Fe-P accounted for 26.1%, and O-P and Ca10-P accounted for 20.4% of total inorganic P. The availability of fertilizer P was obviously increased by long-term applying fertilizer P together with manure, compared with applying fertilizer P alone.

[Rhizosphere effect of nutrients in different maize soils with different fertility levels].

Maize plants and soil samples were collected from Jilin Province to study the nutrient dynamics in soil-maize plant rhizosphere and their relationship with plant uptake. The results showed that NH4(+)-N and NO3(-)-N were accumulated in rhizospheric soil, and mainly controlled by the application of chemical fertilizers. Soil available P was depleted in high fertility fields, especially in high seedling density, while accumulated in low fertility fields. Soil available K was accumulated in rhizospheric soil, and its accumulation rate was higher in high fertility than in low fertility fields. The nutrient absorption amount was N approximately K > P for maize plant shoots and roots, but was N > K > P for seeds. The contribution rate of chemical fertilizers to maize yield was only 1/5-1/3 in Jilin Province, and the rest was contributed by the application of organic manure, such as chicken feces or cow feces, and by the mineralization of soil organic matter.

[Spatial variability of soil nutrients based on geostatistics combined with GIS--a case study in Zunghua City of Hebei Province].

Geostatistics combined with GIS was applied to analyze the spatial variability of soil nutrients in topsoil (0-20 cm) in Zunghua City of Hebei Province. GIS can integrate attribute data with geographical data of system variables, which makes the application of geostatistics technique for large spatial scale more convenient. Soil nutrient data in this study included available N (alkaline hydrolyzing nitrogen), total N, available K, available P and organic matter. The results showed that the semivariograms of soil nutrients were best described by spherical model, except for that of available K, which was best fitted by complex structure of exponential model and linear with sill model. The spatial variability of available K was mainly produced by structural factor, while that of available N, total N, available P and organic matter was primarily caused by random factor. However, their spatial heterogeneity degree was different: the degree of total N and organic matter was higher, and that of available P and available N was lower. The results also indicated that the spatial correlation of the five tested soil nutrients at this large scale was moderately dependent. The ranges of available N and available P were almost same, which were 5 km and 5.5 km, respectively. The range of total N was up to 18 km, and that of organic matter was 8.5 km. For available K, the spatial variability scale primarily expressed exponential model between 0-3.5 km, but linear with sill model between 3.5-25.5 km. In addition, five soil nutrients exhibited different isotropic ranges. Available N and available P were isotropic through the whole research range (0-28 km). The isotropic range of available K was 0-8 km, and that of total N and organic matter was 0-10 km.

Surface analysis of anodic oxide films containing phosphorus on titanium.

PURPOSE: To examine the effect of phosphoric acid solution on the anodic oxide film of titanium. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Commercially pure grade 2 titanium specimens were prepared and anodized in phosphoric acid solution at a constant current density (70 A/m2). Specimens were evaluated by means of scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction analysis, electron probe microanalysis, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, profilometry, and atomic force microscopy. RESULTS: The anodic oxide film was observed to consist of a porous or non-uniform layer and a dense or uniform layer. X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive spectroscopic analyses indicated that the film consisted of a mixture of anatase and amorphous oxide, with the incorporation of phosphorus. DISCUSSION: The degree of oxide crystallinity was observed to increase with an increase in voltage but decreased as the electrolyte concentration was increased. In addition, the concentration of phosphorus also increased as the electrolyte concentration and voltage increased. CONCLUSIONS: Electrolyte concentration and voltage play an important role in governing the anodic oxide thickness, composition, and degree of oxide crystallinity.

[The effects of fertilization on yield and root diameter of Codonopsis pilosula var. modesla].

Field trials were conducted using three factors regression design of quadratic orthogonal rotation. The result indicated that under the condition of cultivation, yield and average root diameter of Codonopsis Pilosula var. modesla (Nannf) L.T. Shen showed a positive correlation with N fertilizer application on high fertilization level; The effect of major three fertilizer on yield and average diameter of root was K > P > N. In the course of selective optimization yield which is higher than 3750 kg/hm2 (fresh weight) and average diameter of root which is more than 1.5 cm, the index of fertilizer application for N, P and K pure nutrient is 155 kg/hm2, 250 kg/hm2 (P2O5) and 60 kg/hm2 (K2O) respectively. The ration of N:P:K is 1:1.6:0.4.

[Physiological adaptability of seeding rice genotypes with different P uptake efficiency under low P-deficient stress].

The genotypic differences in P uptake efficiency of three rice varieties (IR74, IR71331 and IR71379) were studied under the P-deficiency condition with hydroponics, and their adaptability to low phosphorus stress about physio-biochemical mechanisms was further studied. The results showed that rice genotypes tolerated low P stress resulted from the co-ordination of P uptake efficiency, internal utilization efficiency and its translocation efficiency. The higher P-efficiency type IR74 and the middle type IR71331 had a higher P uptake efficiency. The rice genotype with higher P-efficiency was characterized by higher activity and desirable kinetic parameters of H2 PO4- uptake, showing lower Km and Cmin, but higher Imax values and relative APase activity, small amount of Km and Cmin. Moreover, under low P stress, the activity of RNase was about ten to fifteen times as high as that of the control (CK), but it had little genotypic differences.

Control of red phosphorus, white phosphorus and hypophosphorous acid (and its salts) as list I chemicals; exclusions and waivers. Final rule.

On October 17, 2001, DEA published a Final Rulemaking (66 FR 52670) in which DEA added red phosphorus, white phosphorus (also known as yellow phosphorus) and hypophosphorous acid (and its salts) as List I chemicals. This action was taken because of the use and importance of these chemicals in the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine (a Schedule II controlled substance). As List I chemicals, handlers of these materials became subject to Controlled Substances Act (CSA) chemical regulatory controls including registration, recordkeeping, reporting, and import/export requirements. DEA had determined that these controls are necessary to prevent the diversion of these chemicals to clandestine drug laboratories. In order to provide flexibility for legitimate businesses, the October 17, 2001 rule established, on an interim basis, specific exclusions and waivers for chemical handlers engaged in certain activities. DEA has completed its review of comments pertaining to these interim provisions. This rulemaking finalizes these exclusions and waivers related to the handling of the listed chemicals red phosphorus, white phosphorus, and hypophosphorous acid (and its salts).

[Na and Mg K-edge XANES study in silicate glasses].

The structural role of Na in Na2-O-SiO2 and Na2O-SiO2-P2O5 glasses was studied using Na K-edge XANES (X-ray near edge structure) spectra. The Na K-edge XANES shows little change with increase in the content of Na2O in Na2O-SiO2 glasses. However, the addition of P into the Na2O-SiO2 system causes dramatic change of the Na K-edge XANES, and the Na K-edge spectra of Na2O-SiO2-P2O5 glasses also change with the increase of P2O5 content. The structural role of Mg in CaMgSi2O6 (Di)--NaAlSi3O8 (Ab) glasses was studied using Mg K-edge XANES spectra. The Mg-O bond distance in these glasses is estimated to be 2.00 +/- 0.04 A. Thus, Mg in these glasses may be five coordinated with oxygen, or Mg may have multiple structural sites, MgIV, MgV and MgVI. The Di-Ab glasses may possess a medium-range ordering structure.

[The comparison of luminescence properties for Ce3+, Tb3+ ions in the fluorides].

The matrix K3AlF6 was prepared with a reaction of mixture of solution K2CO3 upon certain solution of Al(OH)3 plus HF (40%), dehydrating at 100 degrees C and annealing for 48 h at 600 degrees C. A series of phosphors for Ce3+, Tb3+ ions in complex fluorides KBF4 and K3AlF6 were synthesized by a solid reaction method. Their excitation and emission spectra were determined, compared with phosphors KAlF4: Ce, Tb, CaF2: Ce, Tb and AlF3: Ce, Tb. The results indicated that Ce3+ could only effectively sensitize Tb3+ in KAlF4 and enhance the emission of Tb3+ significantly. Ce3+ can not effectvely transfer energy to Tb3+ in matrixes CaF2, AlF3, KBF4 and K3AlF6.

[Up-conversion luminescent properties of SrAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphors].

Strong green up-conversion emission was observed for the first time in europium and dysprosium co-doped strontium aluminate (SrAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+) phosphor under 980 nm infrared excitation at room temperature. The up-conversion emission spectrum of phosphors was quite different from that of down-conversion emission spectrum excited by ultraviolet or visible lights. The two kinds of emission spectra implied that there are different mechanisms of emission. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results revealed that the prepared phosphor has the same crystal lattice and composition as that reported previously.

In vivo 31P magnetic resonance spectroscopy and 1H magnetic resonance imaging of human bladder carcinoma on nude mice: effects of tumour growth and treatment with cis-dichloro-diamine platinum.

In vivo 31P NMR spectroscopy and 1H NMR imaging were used to examine the bladder T24B carcinoma in nude mice during untreated growth and in response to chemotherapy by Cis-dichloro-diammine-platinum (CDDP) at a dose of 8 mg/kg i.p. Untreated growth was associated with an increase of inorganic phosphate and phosphomonoesters and a decrease of phosphocreatine. Fast growing tumours and early stage of regrowth after treatment presented a higher phosphocreatine/beta NTP ratio. Following CDDP treatment, 31P metabolite ratios and pH were significantly altered compared with age-matched controls, as early as 6 hours after treatment. Although necrotic area was clearly visible in MRI, no treatment effect could be detected on the images of treated tumours.
