[Complex formation of lithium hydroxybutyrate with ions of Na+, K+, Ba2+, Mg2+, and Ca2+].

The interaction of lithium hydrobutyrate (LiR) with ions of Na+, K+, Ba2+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ was studied. The coordination is implemented by atoms of oxygen of the carboxyl group. R forms the most stable complexes with ions of Mg2+ and Ca2+. Complexes of CaR+ and CaR2 types are formed with ions of Mg2+ and Ca2+. For LiR complex the logarithm of stability constant (lg K) is 0.7 +/- 0.3, for CaR+ - 2.0 +/- 0.2 and for CaR2 - 0.2 +/- 0.3. The interaction of lithium hydroxybutyrate with ions of Ca2+ and Mg2+ may be of great importance in the mechanism of its cardiotropic effect.

[Antenatal prevention, using lithium oxybutyrate, of changes in the development of the rat brain caused by serum from schizophrenic patients].

It has been found that antenatal administration of schizophrenic patients' sera to rats has neuroembryotoxic effect on their progeny, decreasing the number of females in the brood, disturbing motor coordination and space perception in young male rats, slightly stimulating muscular force and motor activity, altering lateralization of the behaviour. Antenatal lithium hydroxybutyrate was shown to prevent some of the serum effects.

[Study of the mechanism of the anti-hypoxic action of lithium oxybutyrate using cerebral ischemia as a model].

A study was made of energy metabolism and concentration of malonic dialdehyde (MDA) in cerebral tissue of mice given sodium hydroxybutyrate and lithium hydroxybutyrate 30 and 60 s after decapitation. Administration of lithium hydroxybutyrate brought about a more economic consumption of the glycogen pool as compared with "hypoxic" control. The differences were revealed in the action of both salts on ATP. The concentration of MDA declined after their administration, lithium hydroxybutyrate being more efficacious. The possible mechanisms of the action of lithium hydroxybutyrate are discussed.

Involvement of sulfhydryl groups in time-dependent changes of diaphragm acetylcholinesterase activity by monovalent (Na+, Li+) cations.

Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, as a function of time, showed a concentration dependent increase induced by NaCl, followed by a plateau. In the presence of LiCl, the enzyme activity, before its stabilization, presented an increase, followed by a decrease to a minimum value. Sucrose increased the initial rise and the final value of AChE activity and caused no changes, as a function of time, in the absence of cations. Moreover sucrose eliminated AChE activity decrease caused by LiCl. 2-mercaptoethanol induced considerable and steady increase of AChE activity, in the presence or absence of cations or sucrose and no changes, as a function of time. These results show an activating and protecting effect of sucrose on AChE and the possible involvement of sulfhydryl (SH) groups in the time-dependent changes of the enzyme activity induced by Na+ or Li+.
