The authors evaluated the metabolic kinetics of organophosphate compounds in the course of the evolution of galactose cataracts in rat lenses using phosphorous-31 nuclear magnetic resonance (31P-NMR) spectroscopy. Three-week-old rats (Lewis) were fed with a 25% galactose diet for three days, and one, two, three and four weeks. Metabolic changes in the lenses were measured and the following results were obtained: (1) Changes in glycerophosphorylcholine (GPC) levels over the time course were analogous to changes for choline phosphate (CP); both GPC and CP level showed a significant decrease in the galactose-fed sample compared with the controls from three days after ingestion, and then continued to decrease gradually. This suggested that the decrease of GPC was associated with the level of CP. (2) Inorganic orthophosphate (Pi) increased gradually after the ingestion of galactose, reaching a maximum at third week, and subsequently falling. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels did not show any significant changes at one week, but had fallen significantly at two weeks. There might be metabolic pathways for production of ATP without requirement of Pi in the lens for at least the first one week. (3) Adenosine diphosphate (ADP) levels did not show any significant changes at three days, but had fallen significantly at one week. Nucleotide sugar (NS) increased gradually after the ingestion of galactose, reaching a maximum at second week, and then decreasing. This suggested that the ADP was converted to ADP sugar.
Poisoning by white or yellow phosphorus is reported in various forms and also in ages varying from infants to adults, but spontaneous combustion and explosion during its management has never been described. This incidence occurred while attempting to pass a Ryle's tube. Its free end first exhibited a yellow flame and this later on led to an explosive encounter. Role of static electricity generated while handling plastic materials leading to ignition and explosion cannot be overlooked.

Ca2+-independent, Mg2+-dependent ATP-hydrolase fermentative activity consisting of two components--azide-sensitive and azide-resistant ones has been identified in cytoplasmic membrane of Bacillus sp. B4253 capable to gold accumulation in ionic and colloid forms. The authors have characterized properties of the azide-resistant component of ATP-hydrolase reaction: dynamics of accumulation of one of the reaction products--inorganic phosphate P(i); dependence of ATP hydrolysis rate on the membrane protein content; pH-dependence; sensitivity of ATP-hydrolase activity to the change of reagents (ATP, Mg2+) concentration, as well as to the effect of some specific and nonspecific inhibitors of ion-transporting Mg2+-dependent ATP-hydrolase systems (ouabain, tapsigargin, eocine Y, La ions). It is supposed that the obtained experimental data can be used for the following study of molecular and membrane mechanisms of gold accumulation in Bacillus sp. B4253.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the bio-inductive effects of inorganic elements (Dermlin) on the human epithelial proliferation and differentiation and their promoting effects on skin wound healing. METHODS: 1 ). Cellular test: Normal human skin epithelial cells were cultured with 20 g/L Dermlin supplemented culture medium (E group) and regular culture medium (C group), respectively. The cell proliferation rate and the expressions of type IV collagen and epidermal growth factor (EGF) in the supernatant were determined in 12 and 20 post culture days (PCD). (2). Animal test: Self-consubstantiality control was employed in the study. Sixty Sprague - Dawley rats were inflicted with two symmetric 10% TBSA of superficial or deep partial thickness scald on the back of each rat, and were divided into control[ C, with topical application of silver sulfadiazine (SD - Ag) cream to the wounds] and treatment (T, with 1 g/100 cm2 Dermlin topical application to the wounds) groups. The pathological changes in wound skin were observed and the wound healing rate was calculated on 3, 5, 7, 10, 14 and 18 post treatment day (PTD). (3). Randomized, double-blinded and consubstantiality control method was employed in the clinical trial. Ninety patients were enrolled in the clinical study, among them 30 cases with 60 donor site wounds, 30 with 60 superficial and 30 with 60 deep partial thickness burn wounds were included. Dermlin in dose of 1 g/100 cm2 was applied to the wounds in T group and SD - Ag cream in C group for up to 18 days. Furthermore, sixty patients with diabetic foot ulcers were included for 1 g/100 cm2 Dermlin treatment. The wound healing rate was observed. And the blood and urine test and the indices of hepatic and renal function were determined. RESULTS: 1). Cellular test: The cell proliferation rate and the expression of type IV collagen and EGF in the culture supernatant were obviously higher than those in control group at the same time points (P < 0.01). 2). Animal test: Hyperplastic granulation tissue occurred in the rat wound in the T group since 5 PTD, while that occurred in the C group since 7 PTD. The healing rate of superficial thickness wound in T group on 7, 10, 14 PTD, and that of deep partial thickness wound in T group on 5, 10, 18 PTD were obviously higher than that in the C group (P <0.05). 3). Clinical study indicated that the wound healing rate of the patients with superficial or deep partial thickness scald in the T group was evidently higher than that in the C group on 5 and 10 PTD (P <0.05), but the wound healing time of the superficial, deep partial thickness wound and donor site wound in the T group was significantly shorter than that in the C group (P < 0.05). Before treatment, the square of the ulcers on the foot of the patients with diabetic was (39 +/- 28) cm2, and it was reduced to (19 +/- 23) cm2 2 weeks later, with the therapeutic efficacy reaching 62.5% . For all patients, no obvious change was found in the blood test and hepatic and renal function indices. CONCLUSION: The inorganic element (Dermlin) is beneficial to wound healing and to the proliferation and differentiation of epithelial cells.

Study on the biomass dynamic changes of Codnopsis pilosula (Franch.) Naff. under the different planting density and fertilizing amount of the four levels respectively via the random methods have showed out: the best combination for the stems and leaves are 1.05 million plant/hm2 and 240 kg fertilizer/hm2. Its biomass accumulation can achieve 652 mg/d; That for the root are 0.6 million plant/hm2 and 240 kg fertilizer/hm2 and the weight of every fresh root achieved 14. 88g. The results will be helpful to cultivating and fertilizing of Codnopsis pilosula.
The syntheses of N-2-chloroethyl-N-nitrosoureas (Cl-ENU) that are covalently linked to a series of minor groove binding lexitropsins related to distamycin A are reported. The lexitropsins of 2-Cl-ENU show a sequence specificity for alkylating an adenine toward the ends of its DNA affinity binding domains. The reaction of DNA with 1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-cyclohexyl-1-nitrosourea does not yield these products. Therefore, the linking of the 2-Cl-ENU to the minor groove binder qualitatively and quantitatively alters the DNA observed.
In mineralizing dental tissues the non-specific alkaline phosphatase, using paranitrophenylphosphate (p-NPP) as substrate, is also capable of splitting inorganic pyrophosphate (PPi). In contrast to the p-NPP-ase part of the enzyme, the PPi-ase part requires Zn2+ as a cofactor for its hydrolytic activity. The PPi-ase activity of the enzyme can be inhibited by cadmium ions (Cd2+), perhaps by replacing Zn2+ from the active site of the enzyme molecule. In addition to splitting PPi, the PPi-ase part of the enzyme may also be involved in the phosphorylation process of yet undetermined organic macromolecules. Cd2+ inhibits this phosphorylation process. Inhibition of the PPi-ase activity can also be accomplished by ascorbic acid known for its capacity to complex bivalent cations. Ascorbic acid may accordingly also remove Zn2+ from the active site of the PPi-ase. It is suggested that in developing dental tissues alkaline phosphatase is not only associated with the transport of phosphate ions towards the mineralization front, but is also involved in the phosphorylation of organic macromolecules, a process activated the PPi-ase part of the enzyme.
The purpose of the present study was to find a correlation between gynaecological diseases--myoma (26), adenocarcinoma uteri (21) - and P/S (phosphor/sulphur) ratios of different regions of uterus. Routine histological specimens were re-examined with the intention to select representative regions of the uteruses for element analysis. Conventional haematoxylineosin stained sections were used to identify histological alterations by light microscopy. Energy-dispersive spectroscopic (EDS) investigations were carried out to analyse the morphology and the related element composition of the samples. The results of the non-parametric statistical test (Wilcoxon two-sample test) indicate that the P/S ratios were significantly higher in adenocarcinoma (0.8891 +/- 0.0757) than in myoma (0.4713 +/- 0.0306). P/S ratio of different pathologic regions of uteruses seems worth examining in a larger study population.

Protective effects of gamma-hydroxybutyric acid on bioenergetic reactions were studied in brain of rats with ischemia using 31P-NMR spectroscopy in vivo. Intraperitoneal preadministration of gamma-hydroxybutyric acid at a dose of 400 mg/kg within 30-40 min before ischemia led to a decrease in the ATP pool in ischemic brain tissue, to alteration in the PCr/ATP ratio in the 31P-NMR spectrum, to prevention of Pi concentration increase and to increase in the intracellular acidosis development rate. Possible mechanisms of the gamma-hydroxybutyric acid effects on bioenergetic reactions in nervous tissue during ischemia are discussed.
Our study has shown that P. corylifolia absorbs and accumulates N2 and K2O most speedily in the periods of branching, flowering and fruiting, while P2O5 in the period of full flowering and fruiting. P2O5 is accumulated mainly in the seed and K2O in the stem. The nutriment accumulation is positively correlated with that of dry substances. To produce 100 kg of P. corylifolia an absorption of 10.59 kg of N2, 3.68 kg of P2O5 and 10.21 kg of K2O is needed.

Using a 31P-NMR spectroscopy, we monitored the metabolic kinetics of energy organophosphate compound in rat lens during the process of generating galactose cataract. The most remarkable metabolic change in the earlier phase of galactose cataract formation was found in alpha-glycerophosphate. This increased significantly, as compared to controls, since the day 3 of giving feed containing 25% galactose. The high level lasted for up to three weeks, decrease followed by a gradual decrease and subsequently a significant decrease at five weeks. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) showed a significant decrease in the galactose group compared to the controls from two weeks after beginning of the experiment and the decrease continued. Inorganic orthophosphate increased gradually in the galactose group as compared to the controls, the increase being of significance at one week reading a maximum at two weeks followed by a subsegment decrease. Our basic study suggests that 31P-NMR spectroscopy is a useful technique in lens of the metabolic kinetics, to noninvasively determine the pathophysiology of galactose cataract, which has been studied biochemically and histologically.
