[Functional brain asymmetry and changes in the structure of the visual space in emotional pathology and psychotropic exposures].

By means of graphic test (drawing on irregular grid) the preference of the space parts by patients in depressive and maniac states and also after the injection of psychotropic agents (antidepressants and neuroleptics) was studied. In depression and also after the injection of neuroleptics such modus of graphic test execution was revealed which can be conditionally determined as integral structuring of the space with the preference (high actuality) to its left part. The proofs are given that such type of test execution is typical for predominance of activation of the right hemisphere over the left one. In the manic state and after administration of improving mood drugs, a quite different type of grid filling is revealed, which is determined as fractional structuring of space with a decrease of actuality of its left part. Such type of space representation is typical for predominance of activation of the left hemisphere over the right one.

[Health care needs, brain functional ability, social behavior and social attendant circumstances of elderly patients in community and institutionalized geriatric care in the city of Zurich].

All aged persons being helped by community nursing-services, the house-helper service, the housekeeper service, or living in a home for the aged or in an apartment for seniors in a representative area of the city of Zurich are compared to all patients in nursing-homes of the city. This study included the size of social network measured by the number of different regular visitors, the number of different medications taken daily, the cognitive abilities measured by the Mini Mental Status, the activities of daily living and the social skills rated by the care-givers as well as the intensity of the care given. The groups were similar in age and sex-distribution but the nursing-home patients differed significantly in all other parameters from the others. In contrast, no significant differences could be found between persons receiving care in their homes and those in institutions for the aged.

[Ontogenetic aspects of individual characteristics of functional brain asymmetry in the perception of emotions].

Studies have been made on individual variations in perception of speech emotional information by 7-16-year children. Significant differences between subjects from various age groups were found concerning the correct recognition of emotions, the degree of brain asymmetry and domination type. The exactness of emotional recognition increases with age, while the degree of asymmetry becomes lower, the right hemisphere domination becoming more stable in processing of speech emotional information. With age, individual type of asymmetry turns to the specific one, reflecting asymmetry formation during evolution.

[Population genetics study of functional brain asymmetry in the native and immigrant populations of northeastern USSR. I. Sex-age distribution and familial data].

Clearly definable polymorphism of hemisphere interrelations represented by three phenotypes was established by the method of EEG cross-correlation analysis. Each phenotype of the three, representing polymorphism, is characterized by marked specificity of perception and the processing of information, which determines certain integral physiological characteristics of individuals. Phenotype frequencies in aboriginal and new-come populations of the North-East of the USSR differ significantly. In comparison with the inhabitants, Moscow Russians of Magadan are significantly closer to aboriginal population, judging by their frequency distribution, and this may be due to the strategy specificity in adaptation of populations to environmental conditions. Significant difference in phenotype frequencies is shown in representatives of both sexes, this being more pronounced in the aboriginal population. The establishment of interhemispheric reaction type by approx. 10th year of individual's life is confirmed. Phenotype frequency correlations, depending on parental phenotype, were analyzed in children. The role of genetic and environmental factors in manifestation of the hemisphere relationship type is discussed. Rationality of the population analysis of hemisphere asymmetry types is grounded, according to the study of behavioural genetics and population adaptation.
