An overview of the O-ring implant overdenture attachment: clinical reports.

The O-ring is used to increase retention of implant complete and partial overdenture prostheses. They possess a number of advantages, including ease of use and maintenance, low cost, and possible elimination of a superstructure bar. O-rings wear over time, gradually lose retention, and must be replaced periodically. It is essential that O-ring abutments be parallel to each other. Two cases are presented showing the use of O-rings with a complete mandibular implant overdenture and a maxillary removable partial denture.

Hamular frenum modification: a removable denture prosthesis retention and stability enhancement.

A removable denture prosthesis, whether partial or complete, often requires preprosthetic surgery to achieve optimum stabilization and retention. While the hamular frenum may produce significant dynamic dislodging forces, a literature review did not reveal any reports dealing with this problem. A hamular frenum reduction surgical procedure using the free autogenous gingival graft procedure is described. Prosthetic function may be enhanced by eliminating the dynamic disrupting force of the hamular frenum along with improving posterior maxillary tuberosity contour and, as necessary, premaxillary form, allowing these contours to work in concert to develop a "cupping" stabilizing and retentive complex.

The "jiffy" denture: a simple solution to a sometimes difficult problem.

The use of an interim denture helps prepare basal seat tissues, muscles, and joints to reach a more normal and healthy condition before definitive denture placement. This state is achieved through proper denture fabrication, occlusal adjustments, and tissue conditioning. This article focuses on the indications, technique, and postoperative care that are involved in making an interim denture in a matter of hours. A case report demonstrates the procedure and patient management that is used to obtain a successful result.
