[Tuberculin-provocation immunological tests in the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis].

Prior to and after administration of subcutaneous tuberculin (50 TU) 50 tuberculous and 84 patients with pulmonary tumors, pneumonia, cysts, echinococcosis were examined for immunologically active proteins (IgG, IgA, C3c) and individual serum proteins (alpha2-macroglobulin, alpha1-antitripsin, fibrinogen, acid alpha-glycoprotein). Blast-transformation and migration inhibition on PPI reactions were also conducted. It was established that the above tuberculin-provocative tests may be employed with different efficacy in different clinical situations. Tests for cell immunity are applicable in large well-equipped hospitals. Tests for immunologically active proteins and serum proteins of different functional groups are more suitable for wide practice.

[Combined diagnosis of primary lung cancer using immunological tests].

To compare the accuracy of diagnosis obtained with different diagnostic techniques the authors examined 187 patients with cancer of the lung clinically, roentgenologically, bronchologically, morphologically and immunologically. X-ray made the diagnosis of lung cancer in 85% of the examinees. This diagnosis was confirmed in 87% of the cases. Morphological verification was obtained in 84.4% and 78.2% of patients with central and peripheral cancer, respectively. Additional immunological investigations increased the proportion of accurate diagnoses up to 96.8%. It is concluded that immunological investigations are effective in complex diagnosis of lung cancer.

Comparative study of immunological tests for pregnancy diagnosis.

The reliability of five commercially produced immunological pregnancy diagnosis methods has been investigated. The tests used were Pregnosticon (a tube test) and four slide tests, Hyland, Pregslide, Gravindex, and Planotest. In the series described, Planotest gave 0.5% false positives, Gravindex had 2.1%, Pregnosticon 2.6%, and Pregslide 4.7%, Hyland A (sensitivity 4,500 iu/l.) gave 3.6% and Hyland B (sensitivity 2 to 3,000 iu/l.) had 8.7% false positives. Pregnosticon had 0.5% false negatives, Planotest 2.0%, Gravindex 3.5%, Hyland B 6.5%, Pregslide 9%, and Hyland A 19.5% false negatives. Planotest and Pregnosticon were found to be less influenced by protein and blood in the urine than the other pregnancy tests investigated.
