Alcohol consumption in relation to factors associated with ischemic heart disease: a cotwin control study.

Moderately alcohol-discordant male twin pairs, aged 45-65 years, have been examined with respect to ischemic heart disease (IHD) and associated factors. No conclusion can yet be drawn with regard to manifest or subclinical IHD, while significant disparities were found with regard to systolic and diastolic blood pressures, high cigarette consumption, hyperglycemia, and serum cholesterol; the greater number of findings of pathological values were found in the high alcohol-consumption as compared to the low alcohol-consumption cotwins. These findings offer a possible explanation for the increased number of reports showing a connection between high consumption of alcohol and occurrence heart disease.

Machine learning-based clinical tool for identifying factors associated with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis: the Nagahama study.

BACKGROUND: A clinical tool that evaluates factors associated with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) based on modifiable factors is lacking. This study aimed to develop a machine learning-based clinical assessment tool using modifiable factors to identify factors associated with symptomatic knee OA and to determine its accuracy. METHODS: This study included 429 participants (81.8% women; age, 69.0 ± 5.3 years) from the Nagahama Study who were ≥60 years old and had radiographically confirmed knee OA. A Knee Society Knee Scoring System 2011 symptom score of <23 points defined symptomatic knee OA. Participants were randomly assigned to training (70%) and test (30%) datasets. A machine learning model was developed using Extreme Gradient Boosting with 27 variables, and the SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) values were used to assess feature importance. The top 8 features were translated into a 100-point clinical scoring tool weighted by their SHAP contributions. The cutoff value indicating symptomatic knee OA in the clinical assessment tool was determined using receiver operating characteristic analysis, and model performance was evaluated in both datasets. RESULTS: The clinical assessment tool consisted of low back pain, OA severity, depressive tendencies, knee flexion/extension range of motion, knee extension and hip abduction strength, and lower limb muscle quality. The model showed moderate discriminative performance (AUC 0.771 and 0.773 in the training and test datasets, respectively), with a cutoff point of 47. CONCLUSION: The proposed clinical assessment tool may provide a structured framework for assessing modifiable factors associated with symptomatic knee OA, reflecting their contribution to current symptom status.

Plasmid-controlled colonization factor associated with virulence in Esherichia coli enterotoxigenic for humans.

An enterotoxin-producing strain of Escherichia coli isolated from a case of cholera-like diarrhea (E. coli strain H-10407) was found to possess a surface-associated colonization factor. Colonization was manifested as the ability of small inocula (10(5) bacteria) to attain large (10(9)) populations in the infant rabbit intestine with a concomitant diarrheal response. A laboratory-passed derivative of E. coli H-10407, designated H-10407-P, failed to exhibit an increase in population in the infant rabbit and also failed to induce diarrhea. Cell-free culture supernatant fluids of E. coli H-10407 and H-10407-P produced equivalent enterotoxic responses in infant and in adult rabbits. Specific anti-colonization factor antiserum was produced by adsorbing hyperimmune anti-H-10407 serum with both heat-killed and living cells E. coli H-10407-P. This specific adsorbed serum protected infant rabbits from challenge with living E. coli H-10407 although the serum did not possess bactericidal activity. The anti-colonization factor serum did not agglutinate a strain of E. coli K-12 possessing the K88 colonization factor peculiar to E. coli enterotoxigenic for swine. By electron microscopy it was demonstrated that E. coli H-10407, but not H10407-, possessed pilus-like surface structures which agglutinated with the specific adsorbed (anti-colonization factor) antiserum. E. coli H-10407 possessed three species of plasmid deoxyribonucleic acid, measuring 60 X 10(6), 42 X 10(6), and 3.7 X 10(6) daltons, respectively. E. coli H-10407-P possessed only the 42 X 10(6)- and the 3.7 X 10(6)-dalton plasmid species. Spontaneous loss of the specific H-10407 surface-associated antigen was accompanied by loss of the 60 X 10(6)-dalton species of plasmid deoxyribonucleic acid and loss of colonizing ability. Thus, it is concluded that the E. coli colonization factor described here is a virulence factor which may play an important and possibly essential role in naturally occurring E. coli enterotoxic diarrhea in man.

Factors associated with periprosthetic joint infection following total knee arthroplasty: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to systematically evaluate factors associated with periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) following total knee arthroplasty (TKA), and thereby to provide evidence-based references for clinical prevention and perioperative risk stratification. METHODS: Computerized searches were conducted in the following databases from their inception until May 26, 2025: PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, the Cochrane Library, CINAHL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data, and assessed study quality. The methodological quality was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Quantitative synthesis was performed when at least two studies reported comparable exposure definitions and sufficient comparator information; otherwise, narrative synthesis was used. Review Manager 5.4 software was used for the primary analysis. This study is registered on PROSPERO (CRD420251079339). RESULTS: A total of 25 observational studies were included in the qualitative synthesis, of which 24 contributed to the primary quantitative synthesis. Quantitatively pooled factors associated with PJI included male sex (OR = 1.39, 95% CI 1.27-1.51), BMI ≥30 kg/m2 (OR = 5.72, 95% CI 2.65-12.36), prolonged operative time, type 2 diabetes mellitus (OR = 2.09, 95% CI 1.45-3.01), rheumatoid arthritis (OR = 2.64, 95% CI 1.38-5.02), smoking (OR = 1.65, 95% CI 1.34-2.04), blood transfusion (OR = 2.27, 95% CI 1.59-3.25), American Society of Anesthesiologists score ≥3 (OR = 2.73, 95% CI 1.02-7.32), history of hormone therapy (OR = 4.88, 95% CI 2.90-8.22), postoperative urinary tract infection (OR = 3.59, 95% CI 1.15-11.21), intraoperative blood loss >200 ml (OR = 1.51, 95% CI 1.03-2.22), postoperative drainage tube placement duration ≥24 h (OR = 2.23, 95% CI 1.50-3.32), preoperative anemia (OR = 1.82, 95% CI 1.67-1.99), and combined pulmonary disease (OR = 5.54, 95% CI 1.93-15.96). Age was narratively summarized because its classification differed substantially across studies. CONCLUSION: Multiple demographic, comorbidity-related, and perioperative factors were associated with PJI after TKA. However, because the included studies were observational and clinically heterogeneous, these findings should be interpreted as associations rather than causal effects. Optimization of modifiable factors may help reduce the burden of PJI, but further prospective studies using standardized PJI definitions and adjusted effect estimates are required.

Evidence against collagen activation of platelet-associated factor XI as a mechanism for initiating intrinsic clotting.

Collagen activation of platelet-associated Factor XI has been proposed as a mechanism for initiating intrinsic clotting independent of Factor XII. Since this could explain the lack of bleeding in patients with hereditary Factor XII deficiency, prekallikrein deficiency and high molecular weight kininogen deficiency, we subjected the hypothesis to rigorous testing. Incubation of isolated platelets with collagen and calcium ions failed to generate activity shortening the clotting time of an activated Factor XI (XIa) assay that had been modified to eliminate effects due to platelet-associated activated Factor V. Nor could generation of traces of Factor XIa in such mixtures be detected by incubation with purified Factor IX and testing for the generation of activated Factor IX (IXa) in clotting and amidolytic assays. Moreover, when blood or platelet-rich plasma containing added 125I-Factor IX was incubated with calcium ions and collagen and then subjected to reduced sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, the radioactivity profiles revealed only native 125I-Factor IX without evidence of the polypeptide chains of Factor IXa. The negative results of this study mitigate against the hypothesis that collagen activation of platelet-associated Factor XI represents a physiologically significant mechanism for initiating clotting independent of Factor XII.

Long-term seizure outcomes and factors associated with response to adjunctive everolimus in TSC-associated epilepsy.

BACKGROUND: Everolimus, a mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor, is increasingly used in tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC)-associated epilepsy; however, long-term real-world outcomes and factors associated with favorable response remain unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term seizure outcomes of adjunctive everolimus and explore clinical factors associated with treatment response. METHODS: We retrospectively recruited 21 patients with active TSC-associated epilepsy receiving adjunctive everolimus and assessed seizure outcomes during follow-up. Clinical characteristics were compared between responders and non-responders at 1 year after treatment initiation. RESULTS: Over a median treatment duration of 72 months, responder rates ranged from 53.8% to 64.7%, and seizure-free rates ranged from 33.3% to 41.2%. Responders had fewer involved organ systems at baseline (median 3 vs. 4, p = 0.020) and lower anti-seizure medication burden (median 2 vs. 4, p = 0.045). Younger age at treatment initiation showed a trend toward improved response. CONCLUSION: Adjunctive everolimus was associated with sustained long-term seizure reduction in this real-world cohort. In exploratory analyses, fewer involved organ systems and fewer baseline ASMs were associated with favorable treatment response. These findings require validation in larger prospective cohorts.

Evaluation of Prevalence of Obstetric Violence and its Associated Factors: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Obstetric violence (OV) begins with a woman's initial contact with a health institution and can persist throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. Despite this, previous research has largely focused on the labor process. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the prevalence and associated factors of OV experienced by women during pregnancy, labor, or the postpartum period. We conducted systematic searches in five electronic databases (Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL Ultimate, MEDLINE Ultimate, and OVID) between April 27 and August 7, 2024. Studies were included if they involved women aged 18 and above who experienced mistreatment, abuse, disrespect, or OV during pregnancy, childbirth, or the postpartum period; employed quantitative cohort, descriptive, or cross-sectional designs; were written in English; reported the prevalence of OV and/or associated factors; and were published between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2023. Data synthesis involved meta-analysis, meta-regression, and narrative synthesis methods. A total of 41 studies, including 43,977 participants from 17 countries, were included. The meta-analysis revealed that the pooled prevalence of OV was 61.7% (95% CI [0.549, 0.680]; I²: 99.258%). The meta-regression analysis showed that variables such as the country of study, income level of countries, study setting, study design, and risk of bias had statistically significant effects on OV. In addition, 40 risk factors and 14 protective factors were identified through narrative synthesis. This highlights the high prevalence of OV and the need to address the associated factors.

An immunoregulatory factor associated with spleen cells from tumor-bearing animals. III. Characterization of the factor's target cells.

An immunoregulatory factor associated with spleen cells from tumor-bearing mice was found to potentiate the generation of antibody-producing cells (APC). In an attempt to characterize the target cell of this enhancing factor (EF), its activity in mice devoid of mature T lymphocytes was tested. Levels of anti-SRBC APC were augmented when EF was injected together with SRBC to nude mice and "B" mice. In addition, EF potentiated the antibody response against the IgM-inducing T-independent pneumococcal plysacchardide SIII antigen. These results suggest that EF most probably exerts its enhancing influence directly on B lymphocytes. In a different line of experiments adoptive secondary responses were performed. Mice were immunized with SRBC as carrier or with the NIP-chicken erythrocytes (as a source of NIP-specific primed B cells) in the presence or absence of EF. Various combinations of spleen cells from the donor immunized mice were transferred in a mixture with NIP-SRBC to lethally irradiated recipient mice, EF did not exert any potentiation effect on helper function, except when primed B cells were used. In contrast, a clear activation or clone expansion of hapten-specific B cells was observed. These findings indicate that the enhancing factor from tumor-bearing animals directly affected the antigenic triggering of B lymphocytes and their subsequent proliferation and differentiation to antibody-producing cells.

Factors Associated With Accelerated Fracture Healing in Patients With Traumatic Brain Injury and Extremity Comminuted Fractures: A Retrospective Case-Control Study.

OBJECTIVE: Although traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been clinically associated with accelerated bone healing, the factors that determine which patients experience this phenomenon remain poorly defined, and previous findings are conflicting. This study aimed to investigate the clinical factors associated with accelerated fracture healing in patients with TBI combined with comminuted fractures of the limbs, so as to provide an evidence-based foundation for elucidating the clinical phenomenon of TBI-promoted fracture healing. METHODS: A retrospective case-control study design was employed. Patients between January 2020 and April 2024 with concurrent diagnoses of TBI and comminuted fractures were included. Based on radiographic findings and RUST/mRUST scores, patients were divided into an accelerated healing group (AHG) and a normal/delayed healing group (NDHG). Clinical data including demographics (age, sex, BMI), TBI characteristics (injury site, GCS score), admission laboratory indices (blood count, coagulation function, inflammatory markers), and fracture site/local soft tissue conditions, as well as functional outcomes assessed by the Short Musculoskeletal Function Assessment (SMFA) questionnaire at final follow-up were collected. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to identify independent factors influencing accelerated fracture healing. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted to evaluate their predictive value. RESULTS: A total of 119 patients were included, with 69 in the AHG and 50 in the NDHG. Significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of age, BMI, GCS score, and platelet count (p < 0.05). Univariate analysis showed that age, BMI, GCS score, red blood cell count, and platelet count were associated with accelerated fracture healing (p < 0.20). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that younger age (OR = 0.875, 95% CI: 0.821-0.934) and lower GCS score (indicating more severe TBI; OR = 0.490, 95% CI: 0.339-0.707) were independent predictors of accelerated fracture healing. ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the curve (AUC) for age and GCS score in predicting accelerated healing were 0.893 and 0.851, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with TBI combined with comminuted fractures, younger age and greater TBI severity (lower GCS score) are independent predictors of accelerated fracture healing. These findings assist clinicians in the early identification of patients with high healing potential to optimize treatment strategies, facilitate the early identification of high-risk patients, and provide clinical clues for further exploration of the molecular mechanisms underlying neurohumoral regulation of bone regeneration.

Risk factors associated with failure to receive vaccinations.

A major purpose of a state-wide survey to document the vaccination status of 1,003 2-year-old children was to identify factors associated with failure to receive the recommended vaccinations. With a basic series of immunization defined as three doses of diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP), three oral polio vaccine (OPV), one measles, and one rubella, 72.5% of the children had completed the series. When the completed series was redefined to include a fourth DTP and mumps vaccine the rate of completion dropped to 40.8%. However, 59.1% of the children who had not completed this optimal series could be brought up-to-date with a single visit to their provider of medical care. Demographic variables independently associated with completion of the basic series were increased paternal education (P less than .001), increased maternal education (P less than .02), smaller family size (P less than .01) and higher socioeconomic status, as determined by census tract or rural town of residence (P less than .02). Race was not found to be a factor associated with vaccination rates when socioeconomic status was controlled. Patients who received their vaccinations from private physicians had a better vaccination rate than those who attended health department clinics. This difference persisted even when socioeconomic status was controlled by residence (P less than .02). The simultaneous comparison of parental education and family size demonstrated that a child having one parent with less than 12 years education or having at least three siblings has a fourfold greater risk of failure to complete his immunization than children whose parents are both college graduates. By using paternal and maternal education level and family size as screening variables, children at high risk for failure to complete their immunizations could be identified prospectively and made the target of intervention programs to improve compliance.

Factors associated with career choice among women dental students.

This paper describes factors associated with women's decisions to enter dentistry including timing of decision, external influences, previous dental experience, and dempgraphic characteristics. Analyses comparing data from male students are provided. On the basis of responses from 66% of all women dental students and a systematic comparison sample of men enrolled in 1974, both sexes were found to possess similar values, motivations, and reasons for pursuing dentistry. Male and female dental students differed significantly, however, in time of career decision, factors influencing this decision, work and educational history of parents, and the student's previous dental-related work experience.

Factors associated with positive blood cultures in children in nine African and Asian countries: the ACORN2 surveillance network.

BACKGROUND: Blood culture (BC) in children has relatively low diagnostic yield and high contamination rates, limiting cost-effectiveness. We aimed to determine readily available baseline characteristics to identify hospitalised children with a likelihood of higher diagnostic yield in low- and middle-income countries. METHODS: We used data from ACORN2, a prospective clinical surveillance network including 19 hospitals across Africa and Asia. We included participants <18 years, hospitalised for a suspected infection, prescribed parenteral antibiotics and with a BC sample. Sociodemographic and clinical data were recorded for each infection episode and linked to routine microbiology data. We described true pathogen (non-contaminant) BC positivity proportion and performed mixed-effects logistic regression, with study site and patient as the random effect, to identify factors associated with BC positivity. RESULTS: Of the 26 407 paediatric infection episodes, 17 815 (67%) had a BC sample and 15 384 were included in the analysis. BC results were: true pathogens in 689 (4.5%), contaminants in 1399 (9%) and uncertain pathogens in 143 (0.9%). In the multivariable model, factors associated with a positive BC were age (29 days-12-month-olds OR 1.33, 95% CI 1.06 to 1.66 and 5-18 year-olds OR 1.62, 95% CI 1.30 to 2.01 vs 1-4 year-olds), number of clinical severity signs (OR 1.29, 95% CI 1.18 to 1.40 per one sign) and hospital acquired infection (OR 3.05, 95% CI 2.30 to 4.06 vs community-acquired). Suspected diagnosis of sepsis (OR 2.09, 95% CI 1.67 to 2.61), gastrointestinal/abdominal (OR 2.36, 95% CI 1.78 to 3.13), skin and soft tissue or bone (OR 3.64, 95% CI 2.57 to 5.14) and genitourinary infection (OR 2.22, 95% CI 1.39 to 3.56) were more likely to have a positive BC, compared with respiratory infections. CONCLUSION: We confirmed the low BC yield among hospitalised children. We identified groups for which diagnostic stewardship efforts to increase BC uptake should be prioritised and others in which it could be limited in times of financial or logistic constraints.

Factors associated with low birth weight in the population of Dar es Slaaam, Tanzania.

Factors associated with low birthweight in Dar es Salaam have been evaluated. The incidence of low birthweight is higher among female infants and infants belonging to parents of a low socioeconomic status. Primiparity, short stature of the mother, a multiple pregnancy, "toxaemia" of pregnancy are some of the factors influencing the growth velocity of the foetus leading to an increased indidence of small-for-dates infants. Low maternal age and antepartum haemorrhage mainly affect the duration of gestation and lead to a preponderance of preterm appropriate-for-gestational-age infants. However, in 66% of the mothers with low birthweight infants no associated maternal complication of the pregnancy could be detected.

Treatment of amyloidosis associated factor X deficiency.

This is the tenth patient in thirteen years to be reported with the findings of an isolated factor X deficiency associated with primary amyloidosis. A favorable response to factor IX concentrate was manifested by temporary clinical and laboratory correction of her diathesis. This mode of treatment, therefore, provides an approach to therapy for bleeding complications in this group of patients who have previously failed to response to fresh frozen plasma.

Global prevalence and associated factors of turnover intention among intensive care nurses: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES: To estimate the global prevalence of two distinct turnover intentions among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses-intention to leave the ICU and intention to leave the nursing profession-identify significant sources of heterogeneity, and synthesise associated psychosocial factors. METHODS: Ten databases were systematically searched from inception to September 28, 2025. Two reviewers independently conducted study selection, data extraction, and quality appraisal using Joanna Briggs Institute checklists. Random-effects meta-analyses were performed to estimate pooled prevalence and associated factors. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses explored potential sources of heterogeneity. Associated factors were pooled as odds ratios (ORs) and interpreted within an integrated Job Demands-Resources and Theory of Planned Behavior framework. RESULTS: Forty-six studies published between 2007 and 2025, involving 39,246 ICU nurses, were included. The pooled prevalence was 30.7% for intention to leave the ICU and 27.5% for intention to leave the nursing profession. Significant sources of heterogeneity included ICU type, geographic region, publication year, study design, measurement tool, and sampling method. Depression, burnout, high workload, and unsafe patient-to-nurse ratios were associated with increased turnover intention, whereas positive work environments, perceived organisational support, and nursing competence were protective factors. No significant publication bias was detected. CONCLUSIONS: Turnover intention affects approximately one-third of ICU nurses globally and varies across clinical and geographical contexts. Excessive workload, inadequate organisational support, and unfavourable work environments appear to be important contributors to turnover intention among ICU nurses. IMPLICATIONS FOR CLINICAL PRACTICE: Strategies to reduce turnover intention among ICU nurses should focus on reducing excessive workload, improving staffing conditions, strengthening organisational support, and fostering positive work environments. Promoting supportive and sustainable ICU work environments may help improve nurse retention and maintain the quality of critical care services.

Maternal factors associated with fetal chromosomal anomalies in spontaneous abortions.

The effect is described of maternal factors on the proportion of fetal chromosomal anomalies in a series of 2620 spontaneous abortions, of which 992 specimens were karyotyped. Maternal age was the most important factor associated with a rise in the proportion abnormal, followed by Social Class I or II and the use of oral contraception before conception. The problem of extrapolating from the proportion abnormal to absolute incidence of anomalies is discussed. In the case of increasing maternal age, the evidence suggests that the rise in incidence of spontaneous abortions with age is accounted for by an increased incidence of chromosomally abnormal fetuses. In the case of high social class and a history of oral contraception, the evidence on incidence is scanty and the rise in the proportion abnormal may either reflect a decrease in the abortion rate of chromosomally normal fetuses, or a small increase in the incidence of lethal chromosomal anomalies.

An immunoregulatory factor associated with spleen cells from tumor-bearing animals. I. Effect on tumor growth and antibody production.

An immunopotentiating factor associated with spleen cells of C57BL/6J mice bearing the 3LL tumor is described. Supernatants of cultured spleen cells from tumor-bearing mice (TBM) augmented the generation of both 19S and 7S antibody-producing cells, when injected with sheep erythrocytes into syngeneic C57BL/6J mice. The enhancing supernatant acted both as a polyclonal activator, when injected in the absence of antigen, and as a potentiator of specific antigen-dependent humoral immune responses, when injected in the presence of antigen. It was found to augment induction of specific memory, but not memory expression. Concomitantly with their influence on humoral immune responses, TBM spleen cell supernatants enhanced tumor growth when injected, mixed with 3LL tumor cells, into syngeneic recipients. The secretion of a factor which augments antibody production was not confined to the 3LL tumor system. Spleen supernatants of C47BL mice carrying the B16 melanoma and those of C3H mice carrying the KHT sarcoma had a similar effect on antibody production. These findings suggest that an immunoregulatory factor(s) appears in spleen cells of TBM as a result of their interaction with the neoplastic tissue. This factor can potentiate production of antibodies, possibly also against tumor-associated antigens. The relevance of the immunopotentiating effects of such factor(s) to tumor growth is discussed.

Risk factors associated with urinary tract infection within 4 days of male rectal cancer surgery in the era of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programs.

BACKGROUND: Bladder drainage is systematically used in rectal cancer surgery in male patients, even in the era of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). However, little data is available on risk factors for urinary tract infection (UTI). Identifying the risk factors associated with UTI within 4 days of male rectal cancer surgery in an ERAS program could support more individualized decision-making. METHODS: We used data from the GRECCAR 10 randomized clinical trial, a comparison of outcomes of transurethral catheterization (TUC) or suprapubic catheterization (SPC). 240 patients were randomized, 209 retained in the study (TUC n = 99; SPC n = 109). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression post-hoc study analyses were performed to assess association between potential predictive factors and UTI within 30 days after surgery. RESULTS: Out of 208 patients (median age 64.5 years), 19 (9.1%) had UTI, 26 (12.5%) had bacteriuria and 145 (69.7%) had pyuria. Univariate analysis identified age ≥ 65 years (OR = 3.08 [1.07-8.89]; p = 0.038), hypertension (OR = 3.65 [1.23-10.84]; p = 0.020) and ASA score ≥ 3 (OR = 4.15 [1.53-11.2]; p = 0.005) as risk factors for UTI until POD4. Multivariate analysis identified ASA score ≥ 3 with a risk of UTI. CONCLUSION: Regarding male rectal cancer surgery, our study shows that nearly 1 in 10 patients had UTI within 4 days. An ASA score ≥ 3 is an independent risk factor linked to UTI. Identifying this risk factor for UTI is necessary to advise patients, support a tailored decision-making process, and prevent these complications.
