An updated checklist of testate amoebae in China.

We present an updated checklist of testate amoebae (TA) in China covering TA records in the literature of the past ∼100 years. In total 363 TA species/subspecies in 53 genera have been included in the current Chinese checklist. The updated Chinese checklist includes five recently discovered TA species (Netzelia mulanensis, Pentagonia zhangduensis, Pontigulasia pentangulostoma, Cornutheca jiuhuensis, and Planhoogenraadia wuchanica) and 24 TA species/subspecies that have been added as new records for China. TA taxonomy and classification in the updated Chinese checklist are based on current knowledge derived from morphological, physiological, and molecular (ribosomal and mitochondrial DNA sequence data, genomics) studies. Corresponding changes in the updated Chinese checklist are outlined and the taxonomy and diversity of (Chinese) TA as well as their biogeography, ecology, and conservation are discussed. As all kinds of TA studies are eventually based on a reliable taxonomy and nomenclature, we are confident that our updated Chinese checklist will be of great value for TA researchers not only in China, but also worldwide.

Checklist of perceptual-motor and language skills for developmentally handicapped preschoolers.

This report describes the development of a checklist of perceptual-motor and language skills which has been designed to identify specific skills and to estimate acquisition of skill in 21 developmentally delayed preschoolers. The preschoolers were administered the checklist at the beginning and end of the school year. Significant mean differences between early and late total checklist scores were obtained. The correlation between early and late total checklist scores was .97. The chief advantages of this checklist are the specificity of assessment and the ease with which it may be used by professionals and paraprofessionals.

Normative and validity data for the Missouri Children's Behavior Checklist.

Presented normative data, collected on an unselected sample of 302 7- and 9-year-old children, for the Missouri Children's Behavior Checklist. Boys were found to be rated as more deviant than girls, while age, occupation of head of household, and estimated IQ were found to be unrelated to checklist ratings of deviant behavior. The use of a cutting point on the Total Pathology Scale of the checklist derived from the normative data identified a group of clinic children, 89% of whom were found to be in need of professional attention. The potential usefulness of the checklist as an aid in making important clinical decisions is discussed, as is the need for more extensive normative data.

Development of a diagnostic checklist for low back pain patients.

The study of psychosomatic disorders implies that environmental variables, as well as attitudes and personality, can influence an individual's physical health. The present study developed a checklist composed of demographic and psychological variables to help to make diagnostic decisions related to chronic low-back pain. The need for the checklist stems from the situation that medical clinical evidence is often inconclusive to identify the etiology of patient complaints of low back pain. Cut-off scores on the checklist were able to discriminate with greater than 80% accuracy patients who received a specific medical diagnosis from patients who received a non-specific medical diagnosis. The findings provide additional support for procedures used to make difficult diagnoses of low back pain.

The measurement of psychological states by use of factors derived from a combination of items from mood and symptom checklists.

The similarities in structure and usage of two widely used adjective checklists, the Profile of Mood States (POMS) and Symptom Checklist (SCL), suggested the feasibility of pooling the items from the two scales into a single factor analysis. This procedure was clinically appealing, statistically sound, and provided an efficient method to reduce and refine assessments of psychopathology. Data from 413 Miami Symptomatic Volunteers were used in this factor analysis. Nine factor dimensions were found to meet the dual criteria of statistical salience and clinical meaningfulness. The results demonstrated the factorial stability of the SCL and the POMS and identified the dimensions of psychopathology in which items from the two scales tended to complement each other in factor structure. Some factors were found to be unique to each scale. In addition, it was found that pooling the items from both scales yielded two new factor dimensions that were not previously available from either of the individual scales.

An employment checklist for prospective dental educators.

Recent dental literature suggests that there is a shortage of dental educators and provides suggestions for dental schools to increase and improve recruitment efforts. However, little has been published to aid the prospective dental educator in finding the most appropriate position. A checklist to aid the prospective faculty member is proposed, which enumerates critical employment characteristics to be considered by the applicant during the recruitment process. Essential elements of the dental school environment, the department environment, the salary and benefits structure, and the community are discussed. Techniques for application of the checklist are also suggested.

The Hopkins Symptom Checklist (HSCL)--factors derived from the HSCL-90.

A factor analysis of the 90-item version of the Hopkins Symptom Checklist, performed on the pretreatment self-ratings of nonpsychotic outpatients with symptoms of depression and anxiety, revealed the presence of 8 clinically meaningful factors. These eight orthogonal factors each contained at least 5 items with loadings above 0.40 and explained 4.5% or more of the matrix variance. They were labeled Somatization, Phobic-Anxiety, Retarded Depression, Agitated Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Anger-Hostility and Psychoticism.

Social factors and clinical disease: a checklist data base for correlative analysis.

The adequate care of a patient entails consideration of his social and psychological problems in addition to the relevant medical data. To facilitate this integrated approach, a Social Work Indices Checklist (SWIC) is described, and its use in practice is illustrated. A narrative report is generated from a possible 3095 items of information recorded in SWIC.

Revision and checklist of the species (other than lecudina) of the aseptate gregarine family Lecudinidae.

A checklist is given of the 89 named species of the gregarine family Lecudininae, exclusive of the 42 named species of the genus Lecudina (phylum Apicomplexa, class Sporozoea, subclass Gregarinia, order Eugregarinida, suborder Aseptatina). The list includes also the synonyms, host names, locations in hosts, known geographic distributions of the species, as well as key references. Another list is given of synonyms, lapsi calami, nomina nuda, etc., associated with the genera. A new genus, Paraophioidina g.n., with type species, Paraophioidina haeckeli (Mingazzini, 1891) and a new species, Lankesteria ormieresi sp. n., are described. There are also new combinations in the genera Bhatiella, Ancora, Monocystella, Ascocystis, and Paraophioidina.

Health, socioeconomic status and self-preception in the elderly: An application of the interpersonal checklist.

One-hundred and thirty-four men and women in the Bonn Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA) sample from sixty-two to eighty-one years of age were tested and re-tested a year later using the Interpersonal Checklist (ICL) to study the effects of health, sex, socioeconomic status and time of self perception. Preliminary item analysis justified the use of the ICL for older people. A multiple analysis of variance for repeated measures with the factors SEX, SES, and TIME yielded two interactions for "rebellious-distrustful (FG by sex x health) and "self effacing-masochistic" (HI by time x health) and three main-effects for "agressive-sadistic" (DE by sex), "self-effacing-masochistic" (HI by SES) and "docile-dependent" (IK by time).

An adolescent symptom checklist for juvenile deliquents.

A rating instrument was developed to assess the personality functioning of problem adolescents who have a brief history of official delinquency. Subjects were 186 residents at a short-term diagnostic detention facility. The instrument that emerged from a factor analysis was tested for reliability, validity, and cross-situational generality. Two major orthogonal factors emerged, Apathy-Withdrawal (I) and Anger-Defiance (II). Each factor was found to be congruent with the corresponding dimension on behavior rating instruments that had previously yielded two orthogonal factors and that had been shown to be relevant to a large number of psychological and educational issues. Significant correlations between the factors and a series of global ratings measuring behavior and measures indicative of the frequency and seriousness of official delinquency provided further evidence of construct and discriminant validity as well as evidence of cross-setting consistency of personality functioning.

Checklist, host index, and annotated bibliography of Plasmodium from reptiles.

World literature on Plasmodium of squamate reptiles (1909-1975) includes 156 published accounts on 54 valid species and subspecies. AFRICA: 30 reports on 9 species; AUSTRALIA, ASIA & OCEANIA: 12 reports on 6 species and 2 subspecies; AMERICAS: 116 reports on 37 species. More than half of these reports and new species descriptions appeared during the last 10 years. Most concern plasmodia in lizards of the Neotropics, Georgia (Plasmodium floridense, a Neotropical-Caribbean parasite) and California (Plasmodium mexicanum). African host species are all lizards: 4 agamids, 3 skinks, 2 chamaeleonids, one chordyline, and one gerrhosaurine. Australasian host species are also all lizards: 6 agamids, 9 skinks, 2 lacertids, one (or two?) gekkonids, and one varanid. Known American host species include 12 snakes and 87 lizards: 34 anoline species, 12 sceloporines (plus 11 others experimentally infected), 4 basiliscines, 5 tropidurines, 2 iguanines, 2 skinks (one questionable), 2 anguids (a total of 4 animals), 4 sphaerodactylines, 2 gekkonines and 11 teiid species.
