[Use of an osteometer in the planning of a mandibular prosthesis].

For series determining of small dimensions at high accuracy a pistollike measuring instrument has been devised which is well suitable for planning mandible prostheses, for instance for obtaining the with dimensions of the mandibula corpus basalis or for example for determining the mesio distal diameter of the teeth.

[Mandibular surgical prosthesis].

The need for prosthesis in patients presenting losses of mandibular substance has been examined, with a subdivision of prostheses into: containment, immediate modelling and reconstructive. Technical difficulties involved in their application are described.

Reduction of the median mandibulotomy with the fixed mandibular implant.

A technique is presented whereby a median mandibulotomy of an atrophic edentulous mandible is performed to gain access to an oropharyngeal tumor and is subsequently reapproximated with a four-pin FMI. The procedure allows reduction of the osteotomy site and provides intraoral implants that increase the stability and retentive properties of a mandibular prosthesis.

TMJ dysfunction: surgical management and reconstruction.

In this paper the surgical management of TMJ dysfunction-ankylosis and arthropathies-is described. The surgical techniques and the necessity of wide exposure are pointed out. Only thus are correct reshaping of the condyle, repair of the disc and radical resection of ankylotic bone tissue possible. The indication for prosthetic substitution to be interpositioned in cases with discal atrophy and perforation is discussed. There were no cases of facial paresis and no recurrence of ankylosis. The results, in regard to the functional aspects, confirm the efficiency of the methods described.
