[Histopathologic and histochemical examination of rat liver after prolonged experimental application of potassium bichromate].

The rats were given potassium bichromate (K2Cr2O7) in dose of 2 and 5 mg/kg of body weight and magnesium chloride (MgCl2) in dose of 500 mg/kg for a period of 30 days. The two compounds were also given conjointly (K2Cr2O7-5 mg+MgCl2-500 mg). There were carried out histopathological as well as histochemical examinations of acid phosphatase activity, alkaline phosphatase activity and adenosine triphosphatase activity in the liver. With small doses (2 mg) of potassium bichromate no changes have been stated. With larger doses (5 mg) of potassium bichromate an increase of histochemical reaction to acid phosphatase as well as forming of histopathological changes such as parenchymatous degeneration, steatosis of hepatocytes and their necrobiosis have been observed. There has not been found any protective action of magnesium chloride on the cytotoxic activity of potassium bichromate on the liver cell.

[Mutagenic and DNA-damaging effect of potassium bichromate in Escherichia coli cells].

Mutagenic effects and DNA degradation in Escherichia coli cells treated with potassium bichromate were studied in this work. It is estimated that events taking place in cells treated with the mutagen are controlled by recB recC and sbcB gene products. The method for sedimentation analysis has revealed DNA degradation. The use of the impulse label of 3H-thymidine made it possible to detect DNA breaks in the daughter strands. This effect of potassium bichromate on DNA degradation is, possibly, connected with mutagenic repair.

[Reparative DNA synthesis in the lymphocytes of rats exposed to potassium bichromate and manganese chloride in vivo].

The intensity of DNA repair synthesis was studied in rat lymphocytes subjected to the treatment in vivo by various concentrations of potassium bichromate and manganese chloride. It was found that manganese chloride has a direct effect on DNA, causing its damage whereas potassium bichromate has an indirect influence on DNA inhibiting its repair synthesis.

[Immunologic shifts in tanners under the influence of potassium bichromate contact].

Immunologic examinations of leather-dressers, suffering from eczemas and dermatitis due to exposure to potassium bichromate have revealed immunologic shifts, particularly marked in combinations of the dermatoses with mycoses of the soles. This fact has lead to a conclusion on the contribution of mycoses of the soles to sensitization of the body to industrial allergens.

[Effect of potassium bichromate on mucous membranes of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses in animal experiments].

Common white rats were used in the study of potassium bichromate (PB) influence and paranasal sinuses mucosae. Single 2-10 PB endonasal introductions were performed on hemostatic collagenic sponge and on paraffin. PB revealed ability in significant causing chronic atrophic rhinosinusitis , and demonstrated weak carcinogenic properties through the induction of some nasal tumours after a prolonged contact of the nasal mucosa with the substance.
