[Effect of pentoxyl, ibuprofen and acetylsalicylic acid on the thymus, spleen and adrenals in an experiment].

The effect of acetylsalicylic acid, ibuprofen and pentoxyl on the histological and morphometric pattern of the thymus and the weight of the thymus and spleen was studied in rats. There was decreased function of the thymus and its atrophy with acetylsalicylic acid and ibuprofen. Pentoxyl increased the secretory activity of the thymus. The effect of the drugs on the thymus and spleen was unidirectional.

[Reduction of the incidence of suppurative complications after mitral commissurotomy through the use of pentoxyl and methyluracil].

Clinico-experimental study of the pentoxyl and methyluracil effect upon the natural resistance in mitral stenosis cases is presented together with the findings obtained in the experiments dealing with the healing of the wounds infected with pathogenic staphylococcus. All the control animals developed subcutaneous abscesses leading to the separation of the wound margins. The inflammation of the wound was less pronounced in the animals treated with pentoxyl and methyluracil. The use of pyrimidin derivatives before and during operation and postoperatively resulted in the decrease of the incidence of postoperative suppurative complications.

[Effect of the nonspecific biogenic stimulators pentoxyl and mumie on metabolic processes].

Unspecific biogenic stimulants (pentoxyl and mummie) accelerated metabolism of nucleic acids and protein in rat liver tissue. After the treatment with the stimulants the rate of lipolysis exceeded that of lipogenesis. Increase in content of lactate was similar if glycogen and glucose-6-phosphate were used as substrates of glycolysis, but it was stimulated 2-3-fold, when glucose was used; the phenomenon appears to be due to activation of hexokinase. As shown by polarographic measurements mitochondrial respiration was increased in all the metabolic states, but increased doses caused an inhibition of phosphorylation apparently due to functional overstrain of mitochondria. Increased doses of the stimulants accelerated also some other metabolic processes studied, but the effects were not dose-dependent. Pentoxyl and mummie apparently increased processes of protein and nuclei acid metabolism and stimulated the energy-providing reactions.

[Effect of gentamicin and pentoxyl on the immunological reactivity of the body in the treatment of sepsis caused by Ps. aeruginosa].

The state of immunological reactivity was studied on 250 albino mice treated with gentamycin and pentoxyl used alone or in combination because of sepsis caused by Ps. aeruginosa. Morphological changes in the spleen and lymph nodes, as well as the dynamics of the agglutinins accumulation in the blood serum were investigated. Gentamycin had no significant effect on the plasmocytal reaction in the lymph nodes and at the same time lowered the number of the immunocompetent cells in the spleen and the titer of agglutinins in the blood serum. The use of gentamycin in combination with pentoxyl had a stimulating effect on transformation of the plasmic cells in the lymphoid organs and resulted in increased titers of agglutinins in the blood serum of the animals treated.

[State of phagocytic immunity in white mice treated with doxycycline and pentoxyl for experimental staphylococcal sepsis].

When albino mice with experimental staphylococcal sepsis were treated by doxycycline for 10 days, it was noted that the antibiotic had an inhibitory effect on the absorbing capacity of the peritoneal leucocytes with respect to Staph aureus. The decreased digesting capacity of the leucocytes was observed only during the first 5 days from the moment of infection and treatment. The combined use of doxycycline and pentoxyl stimulated the activity and intensity of phagocytosis. The activity values of completed phagocytosis did not change, while the coefficient of the phagocytosis completeness increased as compared to the same values in the animal group treated with doxycycline alone.
