Pathological tolerance is a symptom that occurs in a stable triadic relationship with certain characteristics, including the sharing of a sexual partner. The term refers to inappropriate acceptance of the triangular relationship by the member of the primary dyad who is of the same sex as the "triadic addition." The author suggests that the intrapsychic and interpersonal dynamics of pathological tolerance are identical with those of pathological jealousy and include the reenactment of earlier conflictual relationships through symbolic representation, expression of homoerotic drives, and a variety of interpersonal patterns. He presents three case reports and recommendations for treatment.

This paper provides an experiential view of a borderline syndrome and its psychotherapy. In a letter to her therapist a gifted patient speaks of the symptoms and treatment of her illness. This provides the basis for studying the precipitous transference relationships in borderline patients and the urgent need in these patients for clarity and dependability from their therapists. Common fears of being "set adrift" by psychotherapy are contrasted to the characteristic tenacity of the patient-therapist bond. A review of the patient's life allows the reader to evaluate the clinical applicability of her insights. The letter's multiple communicative functions illustrate some of the qualities of the object relations sought by borderline personalities, and stress is placed upon the sublimatory aspect of such letters and the prognostic importance of the capacities for sublimation.

There were a father and a son, Michael and Sören Kierkegaard, both highly talented, imaginitive, witty, humorous, especially interested in shrewd dialectrical dialogues respectively debates, both profound melancholy ponderers. But according to very own individuality their congeniality wasn't absolute. The father, being under a questionable rigorous opinion of sin, suffered from undeserved divine grace since early childhood. And Michael Kierkegaard made Sören anxious with the religious experience of original sin. This anxiety moved (touched or affected) the sensitive son mighty. Nevertheless he should not despair hopelessly like his unlucky father. On the contrary: Sørens incomparable melancholy, mental agony and anxiety (fear or anguish) forced the faith, existing independently of them, in a radical refining. That is why Sören Kierkegaard succeeded in sublimation of all psychological and philosophic (al) attitudes (or opinions) in the sphere of religiousness. And the result? A novel philosophy of life: Christian existentialism.
The origins of psycho-analysis, like those of every other medico-psychological study, have their own particular scientific and specific social, historical and philosophical-theoretical presuppositions. Freud's philosophical genealogy is closely linked to classical german philosophy and subsequent philosophical movements. I. Kant, J.-F. Herbart, A. Schopenhauer, F. Nietzsche, E. v. Hartmann, G. T. Fechner, E. Mach, W. Ostwald, L. Feuerbach and others did not only emphasise the significance of drives and the unconscious in human behaviour, they also described many psychological mechanisms from depth psychology, (for example repression, condensation, substitution, sublimation). Some false theoretical trends in psycho-analysis (biologism, psychologism and simplifying psycho-energetics to simplify) can be explained to some extent by the influences mentioned above.
