[Percentual loss of active desmodontioum in horizontal tooth resorption].

Radicular surfaces connected with the bone by the periodontal membrane were measured by means of a galvanic method. The investigation showed that the surface reduction as a function of the length of the root cannot be compared with the surface reduction of a cone, since at least in the coronal quarter of the root, the percent decrease in surface is linear, especially in the case of teeth with several roots. The clinical significance of this investigation becomes evident when evaluating the bone destruction visible in a radiogram related to loading capacity. In the author's investigation an average loss of 60% was found.

Dental Stress Analysis

[Delayed eruption of the premolar after pathological deciduous tooth root resorption].

The behaviour of eruption of lower premolars after pathological resorption of deciduous molar roots was examined on models and X-rays. The molars of the first dentition were shed earlier after pathological resorption of deciduous molar roots. Data of absence are measured in years in the presence of occlusal bone bridges. The middle values are more than three years. Eruption of permanent teeth happens years later or they remain impacted. Eruption dates of premolars after pathological deciduous root resorption and interruption of the lamina dura, and after physiological resorption are significantly earlier than if there is an occlusal bony bridge (p less than 0.01). The therapeutic consequence is the surgical liberation of such premolars and their removal.

Alveolar Process

[Pathological tooth root resorption and its clinical significance].

The author examined 316 teeth, on which total pulpotomy had been performed, for frequency and extent of resorption. Marked resorptions, always associated with chronic apical periodontitis, were radiographically disclosed in 43 teeth. It is pointed out that the clinical radiographic technique permits to visualize only resorptions of greater extent.

Dental Pulp Devitalization

An inhibitory principle in the matrix of periodontally diseased roots.

The inhibitory influence shown by the periodontally diseased root resides in its organic component. Its nature is uncertain and it may be an etiologic factor in periodontal destruction. The apatite structures of healthy and diseased roots are alike in being more receptive to the growth of bone and marrow than are their respective matrices.

Abdomen

[Light microscopic presentation of the morphological behavior of the nerves of deciduous teeth during tooth exfoliation deciduous and after loss of the dentition].

Structural changes in the nerve can hardly be demonstrated in nerve sections located intradentally, i.e. away from the area of tooth resorption. pseudohypersegmentation, however, is found intradentally in nerve sections of the radical pulp close to the resorption area. Serious lesions of the nervous substance are found extradentally, in the direct neighborhood of the erupting permanent tooth. If the deciduous tooth was lost more than 12 months ago, intraosseously the final stage of physiological degeneration is reached.

beta-Hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase activity in human and kitten odontoclasts and kitten osteoclasts.

beta-Hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase activity was studied in whole cell preparations of human and kitten odontoclasts and kitten osteoclasts. Strong histochemical reactions occurred within 2--10 min in all three giant cell types. The possible significance of the high levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase activity in the metabolism of odontoclasts and osteoclasts is discussed.
