[Clinical experience with modified method of tubal ligation].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical results with modified tubal ligation method. METHODS: From 1983 to 1992, 700 cases of modified tubal ligation operation with tubes cut and overlapped were performed in our hospital, and this was compared with 602 cases of Pomeroy's and 502 cases of modified Uchida's method. Patients were followed at 6 months, 2 and 5 years. Pregnancy rates, menstruation disturbances, lower abdominal or back pain, and leucorrhea were observed. RESULTS: Patients with modified tubal ligation method had a pregnancy rate of 0.43%, which was significantly lower than that of Pomeroy's 1.50% (P < 0.05). The modified method group also had few complications. The occurence rate of menorrhage and prolonged bleeding were apparently lower than that of Pomeroy's too (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: This modified tubal ligation method is more effective and practicable than Pomeroy's and modified Uchida's method.

The reversibility of female sterilization with the use of microsurgery: a report on 102 patients with more than one year of follow-up.

A prospective study of 102 patients who underwent a reversal of sterilization between January, 1977, and February, 1982 revealed a pregnancy rate of 68% after more than 1 year of follow-up. The term delivery, abortion, and ectopic pregnancy rates were 52%, 11%, and 5%, respectively. The most reversible procedure was placement of the Falope ring (83% term delivery), and the least reversible was fimbriectomy (29%). The use of the microscope in performing tubal operation was associated with term delivery rates (60%) higher than those when no microscope was used (44%); this was particularly significant after tubal cautery (50% versus 25%). A total remaining tube length of 6 cm or more after previous sterilization resulted in a much better (74%) term delivery rate after microsurgical procedures than that in patients with shorter tubes (44%). The most successful site for tubal anastomosis was isthmus-isthmus and cornu-isthmus, with 81% and 67% term delivery rates, respectively.

Uchida tubal sterilization.

The methods which seek to close the tubes by tissue necrosis may be responsible for subsequent pathologic disorders. These sequelae often explain postoperative repeat uterine pregnancy, ectopic gestation, and other serious complications. In addition to Uchida sterilization, the Uchida fimbriectomy is recommended for use in the immediate postpartum period and at cesarean section because of its many advantages.

[Synthesis of carbon-14 labeled 1-acetoxyethyl 2-(2-fluoro-4-biphenyl)propionate (14C-FP 83)].

1-Acetoxyethyl 2-(2-fluoro-4-biphenylyl) [14C-methyl]propionate (14C-Me-FP 83), a novel nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agent for injection, was synthesized in order to investigate the metabolic fate. 14C-Me-FP 83 was obtained by the condensation of 2-(2-fluoro-4-biphenylyl) [14C-methyl]propionic acid with 1-chloroethyl acetate. The chemical yield of 1 was 62% after purification. The specific activity was 258 kBq/mg (6.99 microCi/mg) and its radiochemical purity was 99% in thin layer chromatographic method.

Automated measurement of alpha-amylase isoenzymes with 6(3)-deoxymaltotriose as selective amylase inhibitor.

We developed an automated method for measurement of alpha-amylase isoenzymes in serum by a single kinetic assay (SKA) and a double kinetic assay (DKA) with 2-chloro-4-nitrophenyl-6(5)-azido-6(5)-deoxy-beta-maltopentaoside as a substrate and 6(3)-deoxymaltotriose (DOG3) as a novel selective amylase inhibitor. DOG3 showed a large difference in inhibitory activity between human pancreatic alpha-amylase (HPA; 86.9% inhibition) and salivary alpha-amylase (32.1% inhibition) at 0.33 mmol/L. Constant inhibition was obtained immediately after addition of DOG3. The inhibitory effect did not change with variation in concentrations of amylase up to approximately 3000 U/L. The results obtained by SKA correlated well with those obtained by three methods: monoclonal antibody (r = 0.988), wheat germ inhibitor (r = 0.989), and DKA (r = 0.995). The within-run and between-run CVs for HPA were 0.63-2.32% on SKA, 0.69-1.81% on DKA. No significant interferences by endogenous serum compounds were observed with the proposed methods.

[Evaluation of the Uchida-Kräpelin psychodiagnostic test based on the Five-Factor Model of personality traits].

A method was proposed for evaluating the Uchida-Kräpelin psychodiagnostic (UK) test in terms of the Five-Factor Model (FFM) of personality traits. First, the oblique incomplete procrustes factor-rotation method by Jöreskog (1965) was applied to the results of the Adjective Check List (ACL) and the UK test administered to 370 subjects. Six oblique primary pattern values for the UK test were obtained as related to the task of addition work and personality traits. Second, the basic statistics including the values of test-retest reliabilities for work-curve measures in the UK test were presented, and canonical correlation analysis was applied to the data based on both personality traits and work-curve measures. Finally, correlations between the items of the ACL and the work-curve measures in the UK test were presented in order to confirm the validity of the present proposal for the UK test based on the FFM of personality traits.
