[Mineralocorticoid function of the adrenal cortex and the renin--angiotensin system in Itsenko-Cushing's disease].

Mineralocorticoid function of the adrenal cortex and the activity of the renin-angiotensin system were studied in patients with Itsenko-Cushing's disease before (36 cases) and after (27 cases) the treatment with chloditan--an adrenocortical inhibitor. Minertalocorticoid function of the adrenal cortex was assessed by the blood immunoreactive aldosterone content, urinary 18-aldosterone-glucuronide excretion, and the rate of aldosterone secretion. Condition of the renin-angiotensin system was assesed by the blood renin activity. Aldosterone and renin concentration was studied by the radioimmunological method. There proved to be a reverse relationship between the blood aldosterone concentraiton and the severity of Itsenko-Cushing's disease. Elevation of the mineralocorticoid function of the adrenal cortex in Itsenko-Cushing's disease was due to activation of the renin angiotensin system. During clinical remission of the disease following a course of chloditan treatment the patient displayed an increased blood aldosterone level and a rise of its secretion. The minralocorticoid function of the adrenal cortex was intensified at the state of clinical remission because of an increased blood corticotropin concentration.

[The manifestations of an epidemic process in a respiratory streptococcal infection among ships' crews under commercial sailing conditions].

Morbidity in respiratory streptococcal infection in 6 ships of the State Fishery Amalgamation "Dal'ryba" during 8 voyages was analyzed. During voyages morbidity rate is determined by sporadic cases, seasonal rises at the time of the voyage and epidemic outbreaks. Spring and summer months constitute the period of risk for seasonal morbidity rises during voyages and epidemic outbreaks at the time of the formation of the crew. The minimal size of the crew in which the activation of the epidemic process took place was 350 persons. In lesser crews (250-300 persons) seasonal rises in morbidity were observed only in the presence of frequent and intensive change-over of crew members.

[Streptococcal respiratory infection in large organized children's collectives and experience in optimizing its prevention].

Epidemiological analysis of the manifestations of respiratory streptococcal infection in the all-year-round pioneer camp "Ocean" over 1984-1990 and in similar large organized groups of children revealed some common regularities manifested as consecutively repeating morbidity rises in acute respiratory diseases, tonsillitis, scarlet fever over a year (rotations 1-3 and 9). Time course of the disease incidence over each rotation (month) had a specific pattern as well. Trials of our newly developed system of prevention and treatment with tomicid showed its high effectiveness, which manifested by a drop in the morbidity level and changes in the structure and dynamics of respiratory streptococcal infection.

[Clinical-functional state of the retina and optic nerve in contusions of the eyeball].

The function of the retina and optic nerve was studied in 79 patients with contusions of the eyeball of various severity. A complex electrophysiological method was used, consisting of recording of visual evoked potentials and of the general and macular electroretinograms, assessment of the threshold electrical sensitivity and lability. Changes were detected in all the layers of the retina and optic nerve, the degree of these changes augmenting with the severity of injury. Changes in the functional parameters of the paired intact eyes, similar in the trend, were observed.

[The frequency of antibodies against delta virus in patients with HBs positive hepatitis].

Patients with HBsAg-positive hepatitis were screened for antibodies to HDV and HCV. The incidence of anti-HDV was 12.5% in a sample of 265 patients. The values differed appreciably in men and women, patients with chronic and acute hepatitis, narcomaniacs and subjects taking no narcotics. Antibodies to HDV were more incident in anti-HCV-positive than in anti-HCV-negative patients. The age-specific structure of the sampling has been analyzed and the distribution of HDV, HCV, narcomania, and chronic hepatitis markers for age groups has been determined. A high incidence of mixed (double and triple) infections with hepatotropic viruses has been revealed.

[Content of arachidonic acid metabolites in blood and saliva of children with bronchial asthma].

The rise of the thromboxane B2, leukotriene B4 and prostaglandin F2a concentration in the blood and saliva of children was revealed during the attack of the bronchial asthma. At the same time the content of the prostaglandin E2 and prostacyclin in these biological fluids was reduced. The level of the eicosanoids in the examined liquids was correlated with the severity of bronchial asthma proceeding and with the adrenal glands function, which activity was also reduced.
