[Thermovision in the evaluation of the quality of fitting of acceptable intake sockets of shin prostheses].

The authors investigated the internal surface of the intake socket and thermal reaction of skin surfaces when walking on the crus prostheses by means of thermovision. There has been revealed an obvious improvement of capable-of support stump tissue trophism when walking on the crus prosthesis with full-contact socket. The prospects of thermovision application for evaluation of prosthetics quality and in the process of fitting of intake sockets have been determined.

[Hepatic scintigraphy using 123I-rose bengal].

The paper is devoted to the experience in diagnostic investigations using rose bengal, labeled with half-life 123I (123I-RB). The drug was synthesized in the B. P. Konstantinov Leningrad Institute of Nuclear Physics, USSR Academy of Sciences. Analysis of the results of investigations of 201 patients with diseases of the liver and biliary tracts revealed the advantages of 123I-RB over standard RPs of similar diagnostic purpose. Owing to low radiation exposure one could use higher activity (up to 120 MBq and more) of the drug. It made it possible to combine a study of the functional parameters of the hepatobiliary system and obtaining scintigraphic data on the structure of the liver and biliary tracts. 123I-RB is the best radiodiagnostic agent for a study of function and topography of the liver in patients with an increased blood level of bilirubin.

[Scintigraphic evaluation of the results of treatment of alcoholic liver cirrhosis].

The results of static and dynamic scintigraphy in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis showed changes in liver sizes, a decrease in the RL/LL ratio, an increase in spleen sizes, the reduction or distortion of the L/S ratio, extrahepatic uptake of RP, and predominance of the arterial component of the blood flow over the portal one. However the main scintigraphic signs of alcoholic liver cirrhosis were undetectable. After therapy (lymphovenous anastomosis, embolization of the hepatic artery) the recovery of functions was more rapid in patients with cirrhosis of alcoholic etiology who discontinued alcohol consumption than in those with cirrhosis of some other etiology.

[Reasons for the operating breakdowns of medical gamma therapy apparatuses and assessment of their reliability].

The probability of failure of various gamma-therapeutic apparatuses has been calculated on the basis of mathematical statistics. It has been shown that the least reliable units are gates, switching on pipes, jamming of ionizing radiation sources, emergency closing springs, heads, pressure stabilization, diaphragms, holders of ionizing radiation sources. Analysis of the probability of various failures has shown that their annual frequency is 0.5 +/- 10(-3) only.

[Experimental evaluation of Bengal rose labeled with 123I].

Experimental evaluation of Bengal rose labeled with short-lived 123I was performed. The best diagnostic feature in 123I-Bengal rose were shown during a scintigraphic study of the rabbit liver and biliferous tract conducted in simultaneous experiments with the use of the agent labeled with 131I and 99mTc-HIDA. These were a high quality of the image of the organs, a low radiation exposure and the absence of extrahepatic uptake of the agent, particularly under conditions of the ligament of the common bile duct. The absence of a noticeable toxic effect of 123I-Bengal rose was established in experiments on rats and mice.

[A radiation method of determining the voltage of x-ray radiation generation. Its status and the outlook].

The paper reviews currently available methods for noninvasive determination of the voltage of X-ray radiation generation. It describes their advantages and disadvantages. The technical data of some commercially produced devices are presented. The paper shows it necessary to develop a standard for noninvasive X-ray tube voltage control and describes the main points of the standard presently developed in the framework of the International Electrical Committee 62C.

[Physical mechanism of cell number self-regulation in a population].

It was shown that concentration of cells in a culture of Protozoa phylum (Infusoria) depends on cultivation volume. To explain the effect, a mechanism is proposed by which the maximum possible amount of cells in the culture is regulated. The mechanism is related to the density of radiation (electromagnetic or acoustic) flux emitted by cells. The radiation density increases with the cellularity in the cultivation volume and therefore can provide information on the total number of cells in the volume. The rations of cell concentrations in different volumes calculated under this assumption are in a good agreement with experimental data. It is proposed that a similar mechanism operates in the feed-back chain that regulates the cellularity in growing organs of multicellular organisms. It was concluded that, owing to this mechanism, mitoses during the growth of the organ would occur with increasing frequency at the periphery rather than in the center of the organ. Experimental evidence in support of this conclusion is presented.

[A small-sized ID-02M X-ray dosimeter for measuring radiation output].

The paper presents a portable small-sized [symbol: see text]-02 X-ray dosimeter designed at the Research Institute of Introscopy, Spektr Moscow Research Production Association, for measuring the radiation output of X-ray diagnostic apparatuses for general and special uses. An aquadag electrode ionization chamber is used as a radiation detector. The technical data of the dosimeter are given.

[A portable miniature IMD-01 X-ray dosimeter for monitoring the dose power in radiodiagnosis].

The paper presents a portable miniature [symbol: see text]-01 X-ray dosimeter designed by the Research Institute of Introscopy, Spektr Moscow Research-and-Production Association, for monitoring the power of a dose during X-ray diagnosis. The device ensures the monitoring of the power of a dose at the input of X-ray detectors of diagnostic apparatuses and, with the use of special methods, makes it possible to control the state of the protection devices of X-ray diagnostic apparatuses. An ionization chamber is used as a detector of X-ray radiation. The technical data of the dosimeter are given.

[Portable small size X-ray dosimeter DER-01M designed for dose control and its intensity in X-ray diagnostics].

Described in the paper is a portable small-size X-ray dosimeter DER-0.1 M designed by the Research Institute for Introscopy, Research Production Amalgamation "Spectr", for monitoring the dose and its intensity in the manufacturing and exploitation of general-purpose and specialized X-ray units. A flat-parallel ionizing chamber is used in the device as a radiation detector. The related technical characteristics are contained in the paper.

[Determination of the efficiency of registration of X-ray diagnostic systems by visually detected minimal radiation contrast].

Described in the paper is a relatively simple method for the determination of the efficiency of registration of X-ray diagnostic systems by the whole tract of transformation of radiation contrast from the spot of contrast-sensitivity test to the visual registration of image. It is just enough to have the contrast sensitivity test and to measure the dose at test location. On the basis of the visually registered minimal contrast the efficiency of registration of a diagnostic system is evaluated by the radiation-contrast parameter. The suggested method can be used at handover tests and in testing the X-ray systems during their exploitation.
