[Maintenance of anesthesia and intraoperative safety in dental implantology].

Most patients who need dental implantation suffer from somatic diseases. Therefore, an anesthesiologist's participation is highly desirable, since he supports the stability of vital functions. The authors used mixed anesthesia involving traditional field-block and general anesthesia. By choosing doses of anesthetics, the authors achieved ataraxia which preserved the minimum contact with a patient and a complete analgesia, which gave rise to psychoemotional stability.

[Use of X-ray techniques in dental implantology].

This paper deals with some aspects of using radiographic methods in dental implantology. Analysis of the published data and their own findings have brought the authors to the conclusion that the most widely used method involved is a panoramic technique; however, CT scan is required in some cases demanding accurate measurements; which, at the stage of preoperative planning, enables us to specify surgical indications and choose the optimal form of implants.

[A comparative analysis of healing mandibular defects due to exposure to different plastic materials (experimental morphological study)].

Autogenous bone grafts are the most effective factor able to activate osteogenesis in bone defects, as shown by our experiments. Experimental biomaterials such as Bio-Oss and KP-3 have a high osteogenesis potential, too. However the callus initiated in jaw defects by those biomaterials underwent partial reduction during secondary rebuilding, thus becoming a less authentic bone formation.

[The evaluation of the efficacy of using different types of implants].

Published reports on the clinical efficacy and remote results of treatment by dental implants of different types are reviewed. The authors assessed the incidence and causes of complications of implantations on the basis of a long (up to 12 years) follow-up of 865 patients to whom 1155 grafts were implanted. Methods for treating and preventing complications are developed. Implants have to be removed early (up to 1 year postoperation) because of errors in defining the indications to surgery and in the operative technique; in later periods the causes of implant removal are implant and denture fractures and bone resorption round the implant because of functional over-exercise.

[The delivery of qualified care to patients with maxillary and craniofacial pathology].

Problems of timely qualified care of patients with craniofacial injuries are discussed. The number of patients with deformations developing as a result of unqualified care is increasing. The authors validate the need in specialized centers of craniofacial surgery. Special attention is paid to the problem of training highly qualified specialists in this sphere.

[An analysis of the histomorphological characteristics of the tissue material obtained during the surgical removal of dental implants].

Biopsy specimens obtained from 18 patients in whom dental implants which lost the functional value were removed are studied. Long functioning of implants involves the formation of thick connective tissue capsule round them in the overwhelming majority of cases. If the implant is intact, inflammatory infiltrative and destructive processes develop, if the implant is fractured, osseous tissue closely adheres to it.

[The clinical assessment of the efficacy of using a biogenic composite material in dental implantology].

A new biogenic composite material based on hydroxyapatite and collagen with silamine was effectively used in dental implantology. Use of this material was conductive to a better course of the implant integration in the adjacent tissue structures and prevented the development of resorptive and atrophic changes in the alveolar process. Use of composite material in patients with relative indications for implantation precluded the development of complications in the early postoperative period and in remote periods of the follow-up.

[Role of monovalent cations in protein-lipid interaction in chloroplast membranes].

Role of monovalent cations in chloroplast membranes was investigated using chlorophyll a as an endogenous fluorescent probe. It is found using specific membrane modification by trypsin and lipophylic polypeptide, gramicidin S, that cations cause changes in the chlorophyll microenvironment. The mechanism of these changes is suggested to be an induction of the protein conformational ability, which results in the rearrangement of their lipid environment and in the differentiation of the latter.

[X-ray study of patients at the stage of preparation for prosthesis by using dental maxillary implants].

The paper deals with the possibilities of using the data of X-ray studies--computed tomography and orthopantomography--in planning the surgical stage of implantation for preprosthetic correction of the upper denture. Examination of 23 patients has yielded the data showing what estimation of the size of an image obtained by the "Denta Scan" programme provides.
