In 50 patients with benign gastric ulcer (eight relapsing, 42 nonrelapsing) the evolution of the edge and scar histological characteristics was studied with special regard to the pressure and modification of epithelial dysplasia. The patients were endoscopically followed-up; for 1 to 74 months. Dysplasia was present in 29% of observations made in active ulcer and in 19% of patients with scarring gastric ulcer. Severe dysplasia was found only in one case. During follow-up, regression of the dysplastic changes was documented in 64% of the cases, progression from mild to moderate dysplasia in 4%, while no change was recorded in 32%. Appearance of dysplasia or progression from mild to moderate was seen in 62% of the relapsing cases, as opposed to 14% of the nonrelapsing cases (p less than 0.005). Dysplastic changes, usually mild, are relatively frequent in the mucosa both at the edge and scar of gastric ulcer, but they tend to disappear with the healing of the ulcer. Appearance or progression in severity of dysplasia during follow-up are rare, but significantly more frequent in relapsing ulcers, which therefore require more careful follow-up.
The increased incidence of multiple primary tumors of genital-breast district has been evaluated, with the possibility of early diagnosis which consent greater survival in cancer patients. We found a particular high incidence of second neoplasia associated with vulval tumors (7.4%). With regard to pathogenetic factors, the oncogenic role of certain treatments is undoubtedly important, especially if they are protracted in time. It is necessary that these patients undergo complete gynecological screening for a time period that is much longer than that held sufficient to consider a patient cured.
To define the frequency of gastric epithelial dysplasia (precancerous lesion), 1463 biopsies from 842 endoscopically studied patients were reassessed. Mild dysplasia was found in 19.9% of the cases, moderate in 4.1%, severe in 0.95%. Since the clinical and biological significance of the lesion is still an open question, indications for follow-up are discussed in the light of personal views, together with a critical evaluation of the recently proposed classifications.
Electrophysiologic and histopathologic correlation has been carried out in a patient with scleroderma heart disease, affected by syncopal seizures, who died of recorded ventricular fibrillation. The electrophysiological investigation disclosed dysfunction of sinoatrial conduction, revealed by sinoatrial blocks and by an abnormal return cycle pattern after premature atrial beats. Atrial effective and functional refractory periods were increased and an unusual 'pseudo-Wenckebach' phenomenon between artificial stimulus and atrium was observed during atrial pacing. Intra-AV nodal conduction time was at normal upper limits and Wenckebach-type AV block was obtained on pacing the atrium at 100 beats/min. HV conduction was moderately prolonged in the presence of left anterior hemiblock. The histopathologic substrates of these electrophysiologic disturbances were fibrosis of the sinus node, disrupted internodal pathways and atrio-AV nodal connections, and left bundle branch atrophy. As far as fatal tachyarrhythmia is concerned, myofibrillar degeneration may have contributed to its pathogenesis. It is suggested that both lesions of the ordinary myocardium and specialized conduction system account for the electrical instability of sclerodermic patients.
150 patients with lung cancer have been studied from the immunological point of view: the two years that elapsed between the study and processing of the data permitted an evaluation of the prognosis in terms of immunology also. This study has been carried out in vivo by means of skin tests (BCG, PPD, Candida, Varidase, CCB, Mumps, BNCB) and in vitro with lymphocyte blastization in the presence of PHA and dependent antibody cytotoxicity. Serum factors which can interfere with lymphocyte cytotoxicity have also been studied. Peri- and intra-tumour lymphocyte infiltration and the lymph node activation stage have been analyzed in patients who underwent surgery. A real depression of the cell mediated immunity observed in the negative response to skin tests has been found. The study of in vitro parameters showed a deficient blast response in 86% of the cases examined, decreased cytotoxicity in 62% and the presence of inhibiting serum factors in 53%. No correlation was observed between positivity to skin tests, normal response to PHA, normal concentration of inhibiting serum factors on the one hand and survival on the other. The only finding which seems to be correlated with survival is lymphocyte infiltration; its peri- and intrastromal presence on the neoplasia may be associated with a significantly better prognosis.

The Authors report on a case of pure lipoma of the bronchus, one of the rarest of benign lung diseases. The article discusses the aetiopathogenesis of the lesion, still a source of debate among the various scholars, and its symptoms, which do not differ from those of other benign endobronchial lung diseases.
The authors describe three cases of primitive lymphoma localized in the stomach. All three were diagnosed with precision only after surgery and histological examination of removed tissues: two were histiocytic malignant lymphomas and one was a malignant lymphoma with poorly differentiated lymphocytic elements. From the ensuing discussion of the diagnosis and prognosis of this malignancy it emerges that the long-term results are better than those pertaining to gastric adenocarcinoma.

The Authors, when presenting a personal case of CBL, make a critical revision of the literature, summing up the evolution of knowledge of this morbid picture. They analyse and discuss the aetiological theories suggested by other Authors on the basis of clinical and anatomopathological criteria. Lastly they evidence the difficulty of diagnosis both for the clinical physician and for the anatomopathologist, since there are numerous pathological pictures which may simulate CBL in the symptoms when present, the x-ray aspects and even the anatomohistological examination.

A case of myocellular necrosis by cathecholamines in a patient presenting pheocromocytoma is reported. Death was due to cerbral apoplexy. The histological findings are quite specific and show myofibrillar degeneration with substitution of the normal striation by coarse sarcomeric transversal bands. The possible role of necrosis by catecholamines in sudden deaths and non-coronary myocardiosclerosis is emphasized.
