[Correlation between presence of estradiol receptors and epidemiological and clinical data on breast cancer].

The aim of the study is to find an eventual correlation between the presence of Er receptors and epidemiologic (age, domestic anamnesis, weight, menarca) and clinicist factors (cancerous diameter, linfonodes, first symptoms). The presence of receptors is very important for the start of endocrine therapy. In conclusion we can affirm the absence of correlation between the presence of receptors and the factors we considered. The only exception is about the age of patients; very probably because too little number of patients was considered. On the contrary a correlation was observed between receptors and severity of cancerous receptors in neoplastic tissues was obtained with Poffanelli method using an Ultra-Turrax homogenization followed by a centrifugation at 3800 rpm; the separation was achieved with carbon-dextran.

Oral route administration of medroxyprogesterone acetate (MAP) at high doses in the treatment of advanced breast cancer: clinical results.

Twenty-six patients with metastatic breast cancer were treated with high dose medroxyprogesterone acetate (MAP) p.o. according to currently available pharmacokinetic data (2000 mg/day b.i.d. for 30 days, 1000 mg/day for the following 60 days). Objective response (WHO criteria) was obtained in seven patients (CR + PR = 27%), with good results on visceral and soft tissue localizations; performance status improvement and/or pain relief was obtained in twenty-three (88%). Oral high dose MPA seems to be an effective and well tolerated palliative treatment in advanced breast cancer.

Technique to facilitate low colorectal anastomosis.

A technique for elevating the rectal cuff and simplifying the construction of a low anastomosis is described. The proximal part of the stump is split into two longitudinal flaps and then easily pulled upward during the insertion of the sutures. Stitches are tied and step by step transverse division of the rectum performed.

[Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents. XIII. 4-Cyclohexylphenylhydroxyalkanoic acids].

The preparation of some homologues of 2-(4-cyclohexylphenyl)-3-hydroxypropionic acid, the separation of the diastereomeric race-mates, their attribution to erythro and threo series, and the optical resolution of the enantiomers are described. The optical antipodes were screened for acute toxicity, as well as for antiinflammatory and analgesic activity.

[Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. Stereoisomers of homologues of 2-(4-biphenylyl)-3-hydroxypropionic acid. XII].

The synthesis of some homologues of 2-(4-biphenylyl)-3-hydroxypropionic acid, the separation of related diastereoisomers, their attribution to erythro and threo series, and resolution of the optical antipodes are described. The antiinflammatory activity--initially tested by carrageenin assay--proves generally influenced by steric configuration and is interesting for the isohexanoic derivative.

[Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. V. Optically active 4-biphenylyloxybutyric and 4-biphenylylglycolic acids].

The synthesis and the resolution of the enantiomers of (+/-)2-(4-biphenylyl)-4-oxybutyric and (+/-)4-(4-biphenylyl)-2-oxybutyric acids and the resolution of the enantiomers of (+/-)2-(4-biphenylyl)-2-oxybutyric and (+/-)4-biphenylylglycolic acids are described. The potassium salts of each enantiomer were submitted to preliminary assays of antiphlogistic activity.

Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agents. 2. Synthesis and biological activity of 2-chloroindolecarboxylic acids.

The Vilsmeier and the Arndt-Eistert reactions have been employed for the synthesis of 1-phenyl-2-chloroindole-3-acetic acid (4). The antiinflammatory activity of 2-chloroindole-3-carboxylic acid (1), 1- methyl-2-chloroindole-3-carboxylic acid (2), 1-phenyl-2-chloroindole-3-carboxylic acid (3), and 4 was compared with the activity of indomethacin in the carrageenin rat edema. The best results are given by compounds 1 and 2 bearing H or CH3 at position 1 and COOH at position 3.

Antiinflammatory activity of four isomers of 2-(4-biphenylyl)-3-hydroxybutyric acid.

The degree of stereospecificity of the antiinflammatory activity of four isomers of 2-(4-biphenylyl)-3-hydroxybutyric acid was investigated in three different tests. The erythro compounds were the most active ones. As the "optical isomers effect" was not significant, this could indicate that the "diastereoisomer effect" is more important than optical isomerism.
