[IgD/kappa myeloma].

The authors provide a description of clinical, immunological and immunochemical studies in a patient with IgD/kappa myeloma which is a rare immunochemical disease pattern. Based on the available reported data and the case report it is concluded that this immunochemical disease pattern has a more favourable course than IgD/lambda myeloma.

[Identical nature of the differences between normal and myeloma IgG in the mouse and man determined by the monolayer method].

The surface denaturation kinetics of mouse normal IgG and IgGl kappa secreted by myeloma MOPC-21 was studied in monomolecular layers at the air-water interface. Based on the denaturation kinetics data the orientation of the native IgG molecules was determined relative to the interface surface, which turned out to be horizontal for normal IgG and vertical for myelomic ones. As regards the orientation in the monolayers and the rate of surface denaturation, the mouse normal IgG were found to be similar to normal IgG from other species. Like human myelomic IgG, MOPC-21 IgGl kappa differed from normal IgG in both the orientation and lesser native structure stability.

[Role of immunoregulatory cells and natural killers in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis].

Simultaneous investigations of the immunoregulatory cells and the natural killers were carried out in patients with different stages of multiple sclerosis in an attempt to determine a relationship between these organisms and the clinical stage of the disease. The quantities of E- and EAC-RFC in patients of all groups were within normal. The amount of T gamma-cells was decreased in the progressive phase of the disease and was significantly higher than normal during remission. The activity of the natural killers in the progressive phase of disease did not differ from control but was significantly depressed during remission with all effector/target ratios. The activity of the natural killers and the amount of T gamma-cells were found to be reversely correlated both in the progressive and remission phases of the disease. A quantitative reduction in the 0 population of lymphocytes was accompanied by a sharp suppression of natural killer activity.

[Effect of T-activin and hydrocortisone on transplantation immunity].

The response of thymectomized and lethally irradiated adult CBA mice to C57Bl/6 mouse skin grafts was studied after recipient protection by syngeneic bone marrow treated in vitro with T-activin, an active factor of the calf thymus with a molecular weight from 1500 to 6000 dalton, and with hydrocortisone for 30 min at 37 degrees C. Bone marrow cells treated with T-activin coupled with hydrocortisone or with T-activin alone induced the development of transplantation immunity in 85 and 80% of the recipients, respectively. Syngeneic bone marrow cells from hydrocortisone-treated donors recovered transplantation immunity in all the donors.

[Simultaneous determination of E-, EAC- und D-rosette-forming cells in peripheral blood of healthy individuals (author's transl)].

By the aid of four different indicator systems E-, EAC- and D-rosette-forming cells in human peripheral blood were investigated. It was demonstrated, that the indicator system consisting of sheep red blood cells and complement-conjugated zymosan particles is the most effectively. Approximately, 60% of lymphocytes form E- and approximately, 13-15% EAC-rosettes. Besides T- and B-lymphocytes in all donors of blood were detected so-called D-lymphocytes. The number of D-lymphocytes ranged from 0,5% to 7%. D-lymphocytes are heterogeneous, evaluated by the number of fixed T- and B-indicator cells on their surface.
