[The revaccination against diphtheria and tetanus with adsorbed DT-m anatoxin of children having solid tumors in their case histories].

Data on the safety and effect of the vaccination of children with solid tumors are presented. As revealed in this study, the injection of adsorbed DT-m toxoid with reduced antigen content at the period of remission does not induce the relapse of the disease and leads to the production of specific antitoxic antibodies on the protective level. The study has shown that complex antitumor treatment does not essentially affect the formation of specific immune response, though prolonged changes in cell-mediated immunity can be observed.

[Chronic endometritis].

The author reviews literature data on the incidence, etiology and morphological diagnosis of chronic endometritis, analyses information on differences in cell composition of the endometrium in normal conditions and in chronic inflammation, focuses on alterations in systemic and local immunological parameters in chronic inflammation and chronic endometritis, in particular.

[A novel method of chromosome distribution analysis in saccharose density gradient].

The human chromosomes distribution in a sucrose density gradient was studied using a new computer method of the quantitative analysis of flow karyotypes. The dual-parameter flow distributions of human chromosomes fluorescence intensities of the sucrose density gradient fractions were analyzed to obtain the quantity of each chromosome. The chromosomes were found to distribute over sucrose density gradient as follows: 1) fractions with low sucrose density mostly contain chromosomes 1-7, and their quantity is increased between 1.4- to 3.2-fold in comparison with the control unfractionated suspension; 2) medium density fractions are enriched with chromosomes 8-20 up to 2.4-fold; 3) fractions with a high sucrose density mostly contain small chromosomes 21-22 and fragments of broken chromosomes. So the new method of quantitative analysis of flow karyotypes allows one to determine the efficiency of enrichment and the maximally enriched fraction for any chosen chromosome. Maximally enriched fractions maximize the rate of preparative flow sorting of individual chromosomes for research or biotechnology purposes.

[Morphological characteristics of chronic endometritis].

The immunohistochemical examination of 46 endometrial biopsies from women with chronic endometritis (CE) suffering from habitual abortions has found disturbance of correlations between various types of immunocompetent cells with domination of T-suppressors, increased accumulation of IgG on the surface of glandular epithelium. In CE, thickening of spiral arteries occurs not because of sclerosis but due to muscular hypertrophy, endometrial stromal-epithelial relations are impaired. Alterations in the distribution of the extracellular matrix components indicate defective endometrium maturation which may lead to inadequate oocyte implantation.

[Changes in the components of the extracellular matrix and its regulators in the endometrium of women with habitual abortion].

Biopsies of the endometrium from 93 patients with habitual abortions (HA) were studied immunohistochemically. Chronic endometritis (CE) was diagnosed in 26 patients. Decreased tenascin expression in the endometrial stroma with merozin accumulation in the glandular basal membranes, covering epithelium and vessels were found in HA combined with CE. Abnormal distribution of collagen type I and III with predominance of type I collagen and appearance of merozin. This is indicative of alteration in the endometrium maturation which may result in inadequate ovum implantation and pregnancy interruption. Stromal alterations in HA with or without chronic endometritis are under multifactorial control of various mediators. High level of MMP-9 combined with low level of TFP-beta 1 may serve a prognostic criterion of successful completion of pregnancy regardless of CE. Low level of MMP-9 may increase the risk of pregnancy interruption.

[Primary culture of prostatic adenocarcinoma: a model for studies of stromal-epithelial interactions].

Primary culture of prostatic adenocarcinoma is obtained from surgical material after radical prostatectomy. Typing of the obtained culture with antibodies to vimentin and cytokeratins has shown that the proportion of basic cell components--stromal and epithelial--in vitro correlates with such in the initial tumor tissue. In cultivation in different media active migration and proliferation of all cell types in the presence of embryonal serum and suppression of the stromal component in the medium where the serum was replaced for bovine hypophysis extract were observed. A comparative immunohistochemical analysis registered a release into culture of alpha SMA-positive myofibroblasts and active expression of TGF beta-1 in the medium containing serum. Design of dynamic mixed cell systems may serve a convenient model for investigation of stromal-epithelial interactions and their changes in cancer progression.

[Activity of endogenous proteinases in glomerulonephritis in children].

Protease activities in serum and urine of 116 children with glomerulonephritis and 16 healthy children were tested using chromogenic peptide substrates Z-Dala_Leu-Arg-pNA and Glp-Ala-ALa-Leu-pNa. We found the dependence between activity of serine proteinases and clinical, morphological forms of primary glomerulonephritis and hypertension.
