Comparative clinical study of a new 17D thermostable yellow fever vaccine.

The immunogenicity and the safety of a new heat-stable 17D yellow fever vaccine have been assessed in a randomized comparative study by reference to a non-stabilized vaccine preparation. Seronegative adults were used and 115 and 143 were given the heat-stable and the non-stabilized vaccine, respectively. Fifty two days after the immunization, haemagglutination inhibiting antibodies were found in 77.6 and 73.9% of the vaccinees, neutralizing antibodies in 99.3 and 100% of them. The percentage of seroconversion and the geometric mean of antibody titres were not significantly different. No complaints or adverse reactions in association with the vaccines were recorded. This study demonstrates the high immunogenicity of this new stabilized vaccine whose stability has already been proven.

[Detection of HBs Ag in bone's metastatic malignant hepatoma (author's transl)].

A case of metastatic malignant hepatoma in bone, developed in a Vietnamen woman, is reported. Indirect immunofluorescence and orcein staining detect HBs Ag in cytoplasm of many tumor cells. This finding raises pathogenic problems, in particular that of the responsability of heaptitis B virus in the aetiology of certain hepatic tumours.

Mummified cutaneous mixed tumor.

A 34-year-old man had an unusual mummified cutaneous mixed tumor that developed shortly after trauma. The apocrine type of tumor cells and pilar differentiation could explain the presence of mummification.

[A case of leiomyoma of the iris].

A case of leiomyoma of the iris confirned to the nasal quadrant in a 64 year old man is presented. The clinical and histopathological characteristics of this observation confirms the classical data about this rare tumor : clinical silence, discovery through a complication, difficult diagnosis, therapeutical value of the surgical biopsy and good prognosis.

[Human meat-borne salmonellosis: epidemiological reflections on a bacteriological survey of the butchers' shops of a large town (author's transl)].

The bacteriological examination of 100 butchers' blocks has led to the identification of eight strains (two from the same sample) of Salmonella belonging to the following serotypes: S. wien, S. coeln (horsemeat), S. newport (poultry), S. infantis, S. derby, S. panama, S. bredeney, S. sofia. The relative importance of these serotypes in the region of Toulon is considered and compared to the frequency of human serotypes, the most important of which is S. typhi murium. The methods used for isolation seem to have little influence on these apparently-conflicting results.
