100 cases of Kyasanur Forest Disease were studied clinically and autopsy or postmortem biopsies of various organs were done in 8 cases. 1. Our study showed that KFD passes through 4 stages each lasting for about a week. i.e. a prodromal stage with fever, hypotension hepatomegaly, a stage of complication characterized by haemorrhage, neurological manifestation or bronchopneumonia, a stage of recovery followed by a li stage of fever in some cases. 2. The exact of cause of haemorrhage could not be identified though Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation was suspected. 3. Hypotension in KFD could be of Myocardial origin. 4. Encephalopathy in KFD could be due to a metabolic cause probably of hepatic origin. 5. Lung signs could be due to intraalveolar haemorrhage and secondary infection.
Benign cystic teratomas are the commonest germ cell tumors in gonads but are rare in extragonadal sites and very rare in the mesentery. Herein is reported a case of primary benign cystic teratoma of the mesentery in a 10 year old girl.
A total of 134 testicular biopsies from infertile men were studied. The potentially treatable causes of infertility viz. Normal spermatogenesis with post-testicular obstruction, maturation arrest and hypospermatogenesis together constituted about 54 percent of all cases. The incurable causes viz., germ cell aplasia, tubular fibrosis and Klinefelter's syndrome together constituted about 42 percent of all cases. Testicular biopsy in male infertility is a very useful procedure since it gives a lot of information on the diagnosis and helps in planning treatment.

The findings of a clinicopathological and biochemical study of epidermal cysts and a review of the relevant literature are presented. A punctum was found in 40% of 34 epidermal cysts that were studied in detail. The findings of the histological study were in favour of the punctum being the orifice of an obstructed hair follicle from which at least a proportion of the epidermal cysts are likely to develop. The biochemical analysis of the contents of the cysts revealed a very low protein and lipid content, thus ruling out any "sebaceous' contribution. Bacteriological study of clinically inflamed cysts showed that inflammation in these lesions was usually aseptic unless there was a communication between the cyst cavity and the exterior.

BACKGROUND: Filariasis is a major public health problem in tropical countries, including India. Despite this high incidence, it is unusual to find microfilariae in fine needle aspiration cytology. (FNAC) smears and body fluids. Six cases of filariasis diagnosed by FNAC are reported. CASES: In case 1, a thyroid aspirate from a 23-year-old female showed a microfilaria with colloid and thyroid follicular cells. In case 2, pericardial fluid from a 50-year-old male with breathlessness and chest pain showed clusters of malignant cells and many microfilariae. In case 3, a bronchial aspirate from a 55-year-old male with fever and chest pain showed aggregates of acute inflammatory cells and a microfilaria. Cases 4 and 5 were lymph node aspirates from a 29-year-old male and 3-year-old female. Both smears showed microfilariae in a background of reactive lymphoid cells. In case 6, FNAC from a 21-year-old female with a cystic swelling in the breast showed clusters of microfilariae, lymphocytes and granular debris. CONCLUSION: In three of the six cases microfilariae were the cause of symptoms, whereas in the other three cases, microfilariae were associated with other diseases, including malignancy. Thus, careful screening of FNAC smears might be helpful in detecting microfilariae, even in asymptomatic patients.
BACKGROUND: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) diagnosis of plasmacytoma is rare. CASES: Four cases of plasmacytoma were diagnosed by FNAC. The patients had clinically palpable lesions in more than one anatomic site. The sites of aspiration included lymph nodes, soft tissue swellings and a bony mass. The ages of the patients ranged from 42 to 80 years (mean, 62 years), and all the patients were male. All four cases showed a monomorphous population of well-differentiated myeloma cells in aspiration smears. Serum electrophoresis demonstrated an M spike in all cases, and Bence Jones protein was detected in the urine sample in one case. Radiologic and bone marrow findings also substantiated the diagnosis of multiple myeloma. CONCLUSION: FNAC diagnosis of plasmacytoma at extramedullary sites offers the opportunity for noninvasive verification of widespread involvement.
A rare case of primary thyroid papillary carcinoma arising in a thyroglossal duct cyst occuring in a 46 year old man is reported. The diagnosis was not suspected preoperatively. On gross examination of the excised specimen the presence of a papillary tumour in the cystic mass suggested the diagnosis which was proved histopathologically. The thyroid gland was normal on physical examination and scintigram thus ruling out the possibility of metastasis from a primary tumour in the thyroid gland.
A 30-year-old lady presented with fever, dry cough and weight loss for the preceding five months. Radiological investigations revealed a solitary nodular lesion in the lingula of the left lung. Guided fine needle aspiration cytology failed to yield any diagnostic material. Bronchoscopic cytology was also not contributory. As a last resort open lung biopsy was done and a diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease was made. Hilar and pre aortic lymph node biopsies showed only reactive change. The final diagnosis was primary pulmonary Hodgkin's disease.
