A new male method of contraception by injecting a polymer, styrene-maleic anhydride (SMA), into the lumen of the vas deferens has been studied on rhesus monkeys. The polymer has the dual feature that it can occlude the vas deferens lumen and also it can inhibit the fertilising ability of spermatozoa by virtue of the pH lowering effect. Matings with females were carried out when the lumen was completely occluded giving azoospermia as well as with partial block and spermatozoa present in the semen. All matings were infertile. Data up to one year is presented. All indications are that the contraceptive effect will last for a considerably long period.

Intravenous infusion of strychnine or D-tubocurarine chloride attenuated the cardiac depressant action and fall in blood pressure produced by electrical stimulation of the right vagus nerve in dogs anesthesized with pentobarbitone sodium. The effects of exogenous acetylcholine on the heart and blood pressure (B.P.) were not modified by strychnine or D-turbocurarine. Physostigmine sulphate potentiated the effects of injected acetylcholine without modifying the effects of strychnine and D-tubocurarine on vagal transmission. Dimethylphenylpiperazinium bromide also produced its characteristic effects on the heart and B.P. in the presence of strychnine and D-tubocurarine. The results indicate that strychnine and D-tubocurarine inhibition of vagal transmission is not a result of blockade of peripheral cholinergic receptors or cardiac vagal ganglia. This inhibition occurs presumably via a preganglionic presynaptic action.
Dissection of embalmed and untreated water buffalo carcasses (n=10) revealed that hernias had occurred at the musculotendinous junction of the diaphragm, ventral to the foramen venae cavae and slightly lateral to the median plane. The diameter of the hernial ring varied from 7 cm to 20 cm. Herniation was more common in the right thoracic cavity with the reticulum firmly adherent to the hernia ring. Adhesions between the herniated portion of the reticulum and pleura, lung, pericardium or thoracic wall were present, while in a few cases thick fibrous tracts concealing metallic bodies were found. In two cases, involvement of esophageal groove with malalignment of cardia and reticulo-omasal opening was observed. Displacement and compression of the heart was observed in four animals.

The arterial circulation to the brain of buffalo is accomplished through the rete mirabile cerebri. It is an interwined arterial mass located in the cavernous sinus on either side of the sella turcica and extend from foramen orbitorotundum to the sphenococcipital junction. The major contribution of blood reaches through the arteriae anastomotica and ramus anastomoticus, the branches of the internal maxillary artery. The vertebral and condyloid arteries form a plexus on basioccipital bone (plexus basioccipitalis). An emergent artery from the latter plexus bifurcates and joins the rete along its caudomedial angle. The internal carotid artery plays hardly any role in the cerebral circulation of buffalo.

We report a case of papillary adenocarcinoma of uterus which developed a recurrence over the scar of surgery. The patient initially underwent surgery followed by adjuvant chemoradiotherapy for her stage II disease. She was disease-free until 21 months when she developed a small mass over the lower site of incisional scar. Fine needle aspiration cytology from this swelling revealed metastatic papillary adenocarcinoma similar to previous histopathology. Treatment of the scar recurrence consisted of palliative radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
Hematogenous spread from carcinoma of tonsil is an uncommon event and skin is an extremely rare site of metastasis. We encountered a 40-year-old male patient who initially presented with carcinoma of the tonsil with T3N2cMO disease and treated by curative radiotherapy. After about 2 years, he developed a skin lesion in the periorbital region which on cytological examination turned out to be metastasis from tonsillar carcinoma. The present paper describes this rare case report along with a brief review of the literature.
