[Biochemical diagnosis of duodenitis].

The activities of enteropeptidase, alanine aminopeptidase, sucrase, and leucine aminopeptidase were determined in mucosa biopsies taken from three defined places of the duodenum and in duodenal juice. We examined 23 adults with a histological proven normal mucosa and 10 patients suffering from duodenitis grade I. Using multivariate evaluation of all the four enzyme activities of the three mucosa sites, we could differentiate duodenitis from normal mucosa with an efficiency of 88%.

[Nodular lymphoid hyperplasia of the duodenum in cancers of the gastrointestinal tract].

In an autoptic study the coincidence of carcinomas of the gastrointestinal tract and nodular lymphoid hyperplasia (NLH) of the duodenum was studied histologically. Out of sixty cases of carcinomas in the gastrointestinal tract not one case of concomitant NLH in the duodenum could be demonstrated, nor in the first section of the jejunum, which was examined for comparison's sake. A connection between NLH and carcinomas of the gastrointestinal tract, as pointed out in the literature, could not be confirmed through this study.

[Malignant degeneration of a residual radicular cyst].

The degeneration risk is extremely low for odontogenic cysts. The present communication deals with a squamous cell carcinoma of the left maxilla. Clinically, it showed all the symptoms of an infected cyst; but histologically, it presented carcinomatous degeneration on certain parts of the cystic epithelium. It was a true cystocarcinoma.

[Studies on the diaplacental transmission of Masugi-nephritis in the rabbit].

A diaplacentar transmission of the Masugi nephritis or the evocation of a clinical picture similar to the congenital glomerulonephritis could not be achieved in rabbits. Also, the juxtaglomerular index-values of the experimental group did not show a significant difference referred to the control group.

[Comparative clinical and histological studies in the diagnosis of isolated proteinuria and hematuria].

In 311 patients with clinical suspicion to glomerulonephritis biopsies of the kidneys were performed. In these cases in 82% the histological or tentative diagnosis, respectively, of a glomerulonephritis could be made. As diseases preceding the glomerulonephritis relapsing tonsillitides are occupying the first place, whereas scarlet fever, otitides, furunculoses and sinusitides were observed more infrequently. Clinically cases of oligosymptomatic glomerulonephritis were more frequently observed than monosymptomatic ones. One fifth of the patients exhibited a restricted renal function or a proteinuria of 3 g/24 hours, in which case proliferatively sclerosing, diffusely proliferative and membranaceous forms occupied the first place.

[Autographical investigations of the transfer of labeled RNA from macrophages to lymphocytes (author's transl)].

By means of electron microscopic autoradiography we demonstrated a radioactivity in mice spleen lymphocytes after a common cultivation for 1 h with 3H-uridine marked autologian macrophages, washed profoundly. The radioactivity in lymphocytes is small after contact with unstimulated macrophages and is markedly increased after common cultivation with antigen stimulated macrophages. A transfer of RNA molecules of macrophages into lymphocytes is supposed.

[Electron microscopic studies on the peritoneal exudate of the mouse to determine the effect of colloidal carbon on the primary immune response to heterologous erythrocytes].

Antibody production to sheep erythrocytes was markedly depressed in mice injected intraperitoneally with colloidal carbon. Peritoneal exudate cells were investigated electron microscopically with regard to mechanisms responsible for lower antibody production. Peritoneal macrophages were not disturbed in antigen phagocytosis and antigen digestion. Only in connection with immunosuppression was there an increase in antigen containing macrophages in the peritoneal cavity. The changing relation of antigen-stimulated macrophages and lymphocytes in favour of the macrophages and its consequence to decreased immune response is discussed.
