We report the case of a 55-year-old man who had a parkinsonian syndrome unresponsive to levodopa for 5 years and had been taking verapamil during the past 8 years. Parkinsonian signs improved markedly after withdrawal of verapamil, suggesting its role in unmasking the parkinsonism. To our knowledge, this side effect of verapamil has not been described previously.

20 patients afflicted with primary hypothyroidism were studied in order to evaluate the association of clinical or sub-clinical myopathy, detected by neurophysiological (electromyography) (EMG) or neuropathological methods (muscular biopsy with enzymatic study). 70% of the patients had muscular weakness (moderate in 30% and severe in 40%) of the scapular and pelvic muscles. 60% of the patients had muscular cramps. There was no myodema nor muscular atrophy or hypertrophy. Seric CPK was high in 70% of the cases. EMG was myopathic in 65%. All cases with weakness registered EMG alterations. The histological findings were import findings were important. The enzymatic techniques showed alterations of the fiber subtypes in 90% of the cases. The type I fibers had sarcolemmal and mitochondrial accumules in 85% and 70% had areas without oxidative activity, similar to "core". In this study, we did not find any correlation between the evolution time of hypothyroidism, hormonal levels, CPK increase, and muscular weakness. The EMG was myopathic in cases with severe weakness, however, in patients with moderate weakness it could also prove abnormal. There was no correlation between the electric myopathic pattern, CPK levels and thyroid hormones.
Lumbar channel stenosis is frequently manifested by a Cauda Equina intermittent claudication. Only exceptionally erections during walking have been described. We have observed two patients with severe lumbar channel stenosis and a Cauda Equina syndrome with intermittent erections during walking. One patient was laminectomized presenting a clinical improvement. There does not exist a satisfactory explanation for this strange affectation.

Thirteen patients with confusional state and cerebral infarction were studied. Seven patients had optic pathway alterations. On computed tomographic scan, 2 patients had multiple infarctions and 10 had single infarctions, predominantly located in the temporo-occipital associative cortex. One patient had a normal scan. Reduction of 'selective attention', 'release' hallucinations, amnesic syndrome and secondary individual adjustment could explain the confusional state.

In our country, cysticercosis is an endemic zoonosis due to the infestation of the larva (cysticercus) of the helminth, Tenia Solium. We Have analyzed the epidemiological data of 52 patients studied at the "Doce Octubre" hospital. The areas at risk are those western rural communities of the peninsula. Although the disease has not yet been erradicated, the lowest number of cases reported was in the 70's due to the greater health, sanitary and social development of these areas. Computorized tomography has helped to identify late manifestations of the disease.

The clinical, electrophysiological, histological and ultrastructural features of a patient with chronic spinal muscular atrophy of adolescent onset associated with hypertrophied calf-muscle are described. This recently recognised entity must be distinguished from other types of spinal muscular atrophy.
