Curantil intracarotid injection resulted in brain blood supply and in brain oxygen consumption increase as well as in redox processes normalization in 75 cats with main brain arteries occlusion and heart insufficiency induced by chemical necrosis of the myocardium. A single intravenous injection of a higher curantil dose resulted in a significantly less effect. Long-term (3-72 hours) curantil infusion led to the improvement of the functions disturbed (limb movements, speech, vision) in 32 of 42 patients with brain ischemic insult. The greatest therapeutic efficacy was observed in patients with nonobturated brain infarction induced by brain vascular spasm or cardiocerebral vascular insufficiency.

Using the thromboelastographic method the age peculiarities of blood coagulation changes were examined in 131 patients treated for cerebral ischemias with rapid indirect-action anticoagulants (syncumar, pelentan, phenylin). In patients under 45 years of age these anticoagulants acted upon all the blood coagulation phases during the first three days of the treatment. Their use led to a lowering of the prothrombin complex activity and fibrinogen concentration as well as to activation of the anticoagulation system. In patients aged from 45 to 59 years these anticoagulants acted substantially on phases I and II of blood coagulation only, while their action on phase III was much weaker. In the elderly age group (60 to 74 years) no effect of the drugs on phase III of blood coagulation was observed. Adverse effects of the anticoagulant therapy in the forms of hemorrhagic complications and "pathological hypocoagulation" were more frequent in the middle-aged and elderly groups of the patients than in the young ones (the difference being statistically significant). The elderly patients showed more pronounced reactions to discontinuation of the anticoagulant treatment. These reactions manifested in rapid and considerable progress of hypercoagulation development.
The state of blood coagulation was examined in 244 patients with acute cerebral ischemia from the data of thromboelastography performed with the use of the image recognition methods. Eight variants of the hemocoagulation system response grouped into 3 leading hemocoagulation syndromes, such as hypercoagulation, hypocoagulation and mixed (hyper-hypocoagulation) ones, were differentiated. Rapid determination of the hemocoagulation response type (with the aid of discriminant analysis, without using a computer) in any patient with cerebral ischemia makes it possible to conduct (on respective clinical indications) individualized differentiated treatment with anticoagulants, desaggregants, or their combination. The method may be of use in treating other pathological conditions (thromboembolic disease, myocardial infarction, obliterations of lower extremity vessels, etc.) with these means.

With the use of a "Minsk-32" computer correlations between expanded coagulograms taken from 850 patients with ischemic cerebral stroke and 146 patients with cerebral hemorrhage were analyzed. The statistical parameters of the coagulograms and the matrices of their pair correlation quotients were calculated separately in three groups of patients, i. e. under 45, 45 to 59 and 60 years of the age and older. It was found that it was the plasma tolerance of heparin, in combination with the plasma recalcification time, the fibrinogen content, the fibrinolytic activity and the thrombotest that were the most reliable tests for evaluating the hemocoagulation status and its changes in the process of anticoagulant and hemostatic therapy of the stroke. The correlations between the coagulogram parameters varied depending on the stroke type and the patients' age. This should be taken into consideration while instituting individualized therapy.

Extensive coagulogramms and thromboelastogramms were analysed in 775 patients who had ischemic brain strokes in the age up to 45 years (I group), 46-60 (II group) and over 60 (III group). In patients of the II and III group thrombogenic hypercoagulant tendencies compared to that of the young age were more distinct and were mainly conditioned by depressions of the anticoagulative link in the anticoagulant blood system. In patients younger than 45, despite more rapid formation of procoagulants, there was an earlier and more expressed activation of fibrinolysis and an increase of the concentration of free heparin in the blood. These changes of coagulation in an ischemic stroke have a compensatory significance and can be explained by a prevalent adaptive tendency of changes in metabolism in young age, providing an adaptation of the organism in the period of stress.
In 53 patients in different periods of brain strokes the authors studied the functional state of spinal centers by means of registration of H-reflex and F-wave of the skeleton muscles. In spite of the stroke character a marked increase of excitation of the spinal centers was observed, it being especially significant in the subacute period of the disease. The increase of H-reflex amplitude was maximal in extremities, contralateral to the focus of the lesion, but it was observed on the lesion side as well. The patients with cerebral coma in the acute stage of the stroke demonstrated a descrease of relation between central and motor responses up to 12--13%, it gradually increased as the coma ceased. The latent period of F-wave on the both extremities was reliably lower than the control indices along the whole period of the study. The authors show the significance of registration in the dynamics of the muscle evoked potentials for topical diagnosis of the cerebral vessel process and for effective control of the administered therapy.
The authors conducted a study of tolerance to glucose with the aid of a prednisolone-glucose-tolerance test in 2 groups of patients with brain strokes. The first group consisted of 63 patients younger than 45 years, the second-of 5 cases-older than 55 years of age. In both groups a positive prednisolone-glucose-tolerance test was found in patients with atherosclerosis or hypertensive disease and was not ever seen in strokes of other etiology (rheumatism, nonspecific vasculitis, cerebral vascular aneurysms, blood diseases, etc.). Irrespective of the age, latent diabetus was somewhat more frequently depicted in severe, generalized forms of atherosclerosis. The authors are of the opinion that larvated abnormalities of the carbohydrate metabolism are one of the significant "risk" factors facilitating earlier onset of atherosclerosis and hypertensive disease, as well as their different complications, including cerebral stokes. The report contains facts according to which dysglycemia seen in older patients should be considered not as a physiological aging sysmptoms, but as a sign of latent diabetus.
The paper is concerned with the results of a comparative analysis of clinical signs in cerebral crises, strokes and other symptoms seen in 2 groups of patients younger than 45 years of age, and differing only in the presence (104 cases) or absence (108 cases) of hereditary-familial aggravation by a cardio-vascular pathology. Although in the first group of patients there was a certain tendency towards a more severe disorder of cerebral circulation, it was not possible to mark any statistically significant differences in the clinico-biochemical indices. At the same time different negative environmental influences (alcohol abuse, brain injuries, severe acute and chronic mental traumatization, frequent exacerbations of focal chronic infections of the ENT and the lungs, etc.) and a combination of 2 or 3 of them were significantly more frequently seen in patients without hereditary aggravation (34.8%) rather then with it (10.7%). A conclusion is being made that genotypical factors do not play a decisive role in the etiology of cerebral vascular disorders in young people. They only condition a lesser stability of the organism to unfavourable environmental factors and their different combinations.

The indices of glucocorticoid and androgen activity in the adrenal cortex (the level of circulating eosinophils, the daily urine excretion of 17 OCS and 17 CS) and the functional reserve after an ACTH loading was studied in 2 groups of patients with disorders of cerebral circulation under 45 years of age (247 cases) and over 55 (234 cases). In the acute period of a cerebral stroke there was an increase of the glucocorticoid activity which was more definitely expressed in the younger group and a certain inhibition of the androgen function seen mainly in the older group. In transient disorders of cerebral circulation significant age difference in the functioning of the adrenal cortex was not established. In the period following a stroke the established and potential reserves of the adrenocortical glands were distinctly decreased in patients above 55 years and practically unchanged in the younger group.
The paper summarizes the results of a quantitative analysis of the EEG in 106 patients under 45 years. Among these patients 32 had cerebro-vascular paroxysms of a functional angiodystonic character and 74 with mild initial signs of organic vascular lesions of the brain. The authors give a detailed analysis of statistically significant changes in the EEG picture in both groups of the patients.
The paper deals with the results of some indices of an extensified coagulogramme in disorders of cerebral circulation in 246 patients younger than 45 years and in 242 older than 55. In both groups, irrespective of the character of the stroke in the acute phase there was a tendency towards hypercoagulation which was more expressed in individuals up to 45 years. Besides, an increased tendency of coagulative blood properties in the acute phase, there was an earlier and significant activation of faibrinolysis in the subacute and rehabilitative period seen in the young individuals. In the elderly group an increase of fibrinolytic activity was unproportional to the increase of coagulant blood properties. This disproportion was seen in an ischemic stroke.
