Two further examples of IgG thimerosal-dependent antibodies have been found by routine immunohematological tests carried out in our laboratory. Both antibodies fixed the complement and had no apparent blood group specificity. Their reactivity was inhibited by adding thimerosal to the serum prior to the addition of red blood cells. If cross matching is performed accordingly, thimerosal-dependent antibodies should not any longer represent a blood bank problem.
In the last year, various companies of the goldsmith handicraft field have been inquired. These factories are in an area of the Caserta territory. Scope of that job was to apply the method for the chemical risk assessment previewed by D.L.vo 25/2002, using the scheme proposed by Work Minister--General Directorate-Work condition protection. In particular, it has been estimated biological and environmental expositions concerned several chemical metallic agents: Au, Ag, Cu, Zn, Cd, In, Co and Pd. Moreover, it has been focused the attention on the biological and environmental monitoring of Ag, because there are a good correlation between environmental and urinary doses. The analyses have been carried out using atomic absorption techniques. It turns out to you evidence that environmental and biological silver values are often under the detection limit of the method. Therefore, concerning the chemical risk assessment of the investigated factories, it is possible to conclude that: "the potential chemical risk has to be considered moderate".
Glutaraldehyde (GTA) solutions can be used for low-temperature endoscopes disinfection. The research aim was to evaluate the aldehyde air-contamination in Campania hospitals operating theatres produced by the use of two-percent glutaraldehyde alkaline solution. Air samples were analysed by HPLC-UV (Hight Performance Liquid Chromatography with UV detection). The final results show that some operating theatres have a significant GTA air-contamination with a substance concentration upper limit value (0,05 ppm), due to not-well ventilated workplaces and the presence of not-automatic washing units.
The psychological and relational problems present in pediatric patients with congenital cardiac anomalies and in their families are reviewed based on an analysis of the current literature and on the personal experience of the authors. The need for all caretakers, especially the cardiologist and the cardiac surgeon, to be aware of these critical aspects is emphasized. The psychological experience of the patient and of his family is thoroughly addressed. Moreover, the complex relationship that developed between the family and the physician as a result of the family's expectations, requests and unconscious projections are discussed.
The Authors propose a new classification of the infant psychopathologic syndromes, based upon a "pluri-axial" approach, and using the criteria of coherence and clearness. The scheme has been developed according to the French School of Psychosomatic, and the results of the research of Leon Kreisler. The role of the pediatrician results modified by the use of this method; he must be more attentive to the infant's needs, messages and disposition, rather than to the bare symptom.
We examined 8 subjects affected by hemifacial spasm. The CT exam showed a megadolichobasilaris vessel in five of them. Four of these five presented BAEP anomalies. Three of these four showed a decreased amplitude of the V wave and the other one a pathological increment of the I-V interval.
At present, ultrasounds represent the most reliable investigation with images for early C.H.D. diagnosis. This test is innocuous so it can be repeated and furnishes, especially in the first months of life, all those informations the traditional radiology cannot give us. In this work the authors report a clinical and ultrasonographic study of 1116 children (2232 hips); 127 of these were newborns and they have been followed-up from their birth to 7th month of life with ultrasound test at 1.-3.-5.-7. month of life. U.S. investigation has proved itself very sensitive and specific.
Kirner's malformation of the fifth finger represents an unusual bony anomaly that has an uncertain etiopathogenesis: there is possibly a connection with a district alteration of the vascularisation of the fifth finger distal phalanx. It must be discriminated from the typical clenodactyly an anomaly which concerns prevalently finger terminal phalanx without bony alterations and which presents a distribution in the family. The case we related concerning a little girl, aged 11, had considerable advantage after a corrective osteotomy.
