Disturbed wound healing following dentoalveolar procedures may be due to various causes. Necrotizing inflammations with epitheloid cells may easily be mistaken for specific inflammations. Atypical granulomas represent a response to foreign body material (e.g., gelatin sponges). The possibility of sensitization with Gelastypt was tested using immunologic methods.
We report eight patients with the craniofacial defects and limb anomalies of the (amniotic deformity, adhesions, mutilations) ADAM complex. Facial abnormalities comprise clefts and distortion and dislocation of craniofacial structures; limbs show various combinations of amputation, secondary syndactyly, and constriction. From previous reports and our cases it is obvious that the clinical picture of the ADAM complex varies enormously; a less severe type combines cleft lip and palate with amputations or amniotic bands. Clinical and experimental data suggest that these malformations are of symptomatic (exogenous) origin. Nosologic differentiation from other conditions phenotypically similar but of genetic etiology is important for genetic counseling. Observation of the ADAM complex in two members of a family suggests that genetic factors might operate in some cases.
Facultative changes in the teeth, mouth, and jaw in addition to acrogeria, acromicria, and facial erythema are found with Gottron's syndrome. Hypoplasia of the jaw, changes in the position of the teeth, or disproportional relations in the vertical dimensions of the face have been observed. These findings were also recorded in the case described here. The possibility of Gottron's syndrome should be considered if several of the above-mentioned symptoms are present.
A case of Gardners syndrome is described. This illness, inherited by autosomal dominance clinically shows multiple soft tumours, osteotomatosis, occasionally also odeontomata and polyposis intestinalis. The almost invariably occuring malignant degeneration of single intestinal polyps has led to the inclusion of Gardner's syndrome into the group of precancerous conditions.

For objectifying clinical experience, we measured and compared experimental stimulus thresholds with Ultracain 4% and Xylocain 2% in the upper and lower jaws in double blind tests. By means of electronically controlled rectangular impulses the latent period, depth and duration of anesthesia were registered. Relevant differences were found for plexus anesthesia in the lower jaw. The Ultracain preparation is characterized by a high capacity of bone penetration.
Open vestibuloplasty in combination with mucogingival surgery has the disadvantage of a high tendency to relapse. The introduction of the gingival graft on to the open periosteum was a considerable improvement. The use of compound flaps taken from the hairless retroauricular region also showed good post-operative results. In addition to good healing and little tendency to shrink, there is the advantage of an ample supply of tissue.

The activities of the enzymes LDH (Lactatdehydrogenase), HBDH (Hydroxybutyratdehydrogenase), and GIDH (Glutamate dehydrogenase), as well as LAP (Leucine aryl peptidase) were measured in the serum of 934 children in order to get normal values of these enzyme activities in dependence on the age. We used again the optimized methods (Boehringer und Merck). The form of the distribution of the single values of these 4 enzymes can be described by a lognormal distribution. This applies not to newborns and young sucklings. All measured enzyme activities were depended on the age of the children; newborn and sucklings had significantly higher enzyme activities than infants. After the second year of life the enzyme activities for LDH, HBDH, GlDH and LAP remained constantly. The physiological variations are very high in the newborns. The diagnostic selectivity of the enzyme GIDH is very good, this of LDH and HBDH turned out unspecifically. No difference could be supplied for the sex of the children.
