[Applicability to abrasion material of in vitro autoradiography, using 3H-thymidine (author's transl)].

The applicability of in vitro autoradiography, using 3H-thymidine, was tested on material obtained from gynaecological abrasion. Included were 161 abrasion samples obtained from 151 patients, and 88 per cent of them proved evaluable by autoradiography. The use of in vitro autoradiography was found to give no additional gain in information for biological assessment. Index testing by means of in vitro autoradiography failed to prove worthwhile unless it came to examination of polyps or of glandular-cystic hyperplasia or of effects exerted on the endometrium by ovarian tumours with sizeable hormonal activity. Endometrium was found to be a kind of tissue characterised in both intact and pathological condition by pronounced individual age-dependent and cycledependent variations of its marking indices.

[Considerations on a pathology of the diaphragm. 1st Report: the pathology of the diaphragm as a part of a pathology of respiration (author's transl)].

The first part of this paper deals with the idea of a "pathology of the diaphragm" and its special relations to the respiration on phylogenetical and ontogenetical base. A pathology of diaphragm does not exist until now. The diaphragm represents an important respiration organ in orthological and pathological conditions. The function of this organ is described and derivated from its specific anatomical structure and topographical site. In this conception the pathology of the diaphragm is a part of the complex pathology of the respiration. A systematic presentation of diaphragm diseases will follow in a second part of this paper.

[Histomorphological and spectroscopic studies on the skeleton following alloplastic joint substitution (author's transl)].

We report on our morphological and spectrometric findings with complete acetabuloplastics. The histomorphological investigation revealed the formation of a narrow cicatricial coat round the prothesis. The collagenous tissue borders on a zone of granulation tissue of varying width. Granular foreign matter can be found in cicatrical tissue especially in the extracellular space and in granulation tissue in macrophages. Only a few partigles turned out to be iron in the Prussian blue reaction. Spectral analysis proved the hip and thigh-bones to contain more than 0.001 p. c. of cobalt and chrome. Toxicological problems inherent in the use of the cobalt alloy "Vitallium" are discussed. The dangers of metal poisoning are dealt with in addition to those of the development of osteomyelitis and the formation of a sarcoma. At last we discuss our macroscopic findings concerning the fit of the prosthesis, the metal demonstration by electron micrsocopy, and the scanning electron microscopic investigation of the metal surfaces.
