Heterologous antibodies in human and rat's glioblastoma.

IgG from immunized rabbits was labelled with Fluorescein Isothiocyanate, and conjugated in vitro with human and with rat glioblastoma. After absorption of the antisera with normal brain and liver, a heavy concentration of antibody was found in the rat tumour cells. A great amount of antibody was also found in the human neoplastic cells. The incorporation of this antibody in glioma cells of different rats developing new tumours indicates that transplantation antigens of the H-2 type are not the only ones capable of inducing specific antibody attachment.

[Dysembrioplastic neuroepithelial tumors].

INTRODUCTION: The dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumours, first defined by Dumas-Duport in 1988, are characterized histologically by being found in the cerebral cortex and having a histological pattern of multinodular architecture, foci of cortical dysplasia and a specific glioneuronal element. The clinical condition is characterized by seizures with a long evolution. These seizures are usually simple or complex partial seizures, but occasionally become generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Radiological findings on CAT or MR are cystic images localized to the cortex, with a solid component and do not cause displacement. The surgical operation required involves excision of the lesion or lesionectomy. This may be done so as to include 1 cm of the periphery of the lesion. The evolution is excellent and in most cases the seizures disappear. CLINICAL CASES: We present 4 cases of a series of 470 patients with tumours of the nervous system, operated on over the past 10 years in the Hospital del Niño Jesús. The evolution of these 4 cases has been from 1 to 5 years. In all 4 cases lesionectomy was carried out, and the evolution has been excellent (grade I of Engel's classification). CONCLUSIONS: 1. Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumours are solid and cystic, situated in the cerebral cortex, with foci of cortical dysplasia. They are characterized by having a specific glioneuronal element. 2. Clinically they are characterized by crises with a long evolution. 3. The surgical operation involves lesionectomy or excision of the lesion. The evolution is excellent.

[Tumours of chiasmatic and hypothalamic regions in children (author's transl)].

31 cases with tumours in chiasm and hypothalamus are presented. 21 cases had glioma of chiasma (the tumor continued along one or both optic nerves), six cases had craniopharyngioma and four cases had astrocytoma in the hypothalamus. All of these tumours represent 19% of intracranial tumours observed in our service over a period of eleven years. Russell's syndrome was usually seen in cases of gliomas of chiasm. Visual alterations were observed in a high average of patients with any type of the tumours. Skull in lateral view was a positive proof in all the three types of tumours showing "omega" sella turcica in gliomas of chiasm, supra or retro-sellar calcifications in croniopharyngiomas and large sella turcica in astrocytomas of the hypophalamus. Neumoencephalography and angiography were very positives proofs in all types of tumours. Gammagraphy was specially possitive in gliomas of chiasm. Computed axial tomography is very useful in all types of tumour, but our experience is still limited in comparison with other methods. Most effective treatment for gliomas of the chiasm was radiotherapy with shunt in cases with hydrocephalus and total or partial extirpation in astrocytomas of the hypothalamus and in craniopharyngiomas. Survival rate among patients with these types of tumour is high but presence of visual and endocrinological secuelae is very high too.
