In vitro effects of contrast media on the water content of human erythrocytes.

The effect of the concentration of the contrast media Visotrast 370, Dimer X and Adipiodon on the water content of human erythrocytes was analysed in vitro. While a concentration-dependent water discharge (shrinkage) of erythrocytes was found in the presence of Visotrast 370 and Dimer X, the application of Adipiodon caused water uptake (swelling). Possible causes of swelling of red blood cells despite the hyperosmolality of Adipiodon are discussed.

[Angiographic diagnosis in renal injuries].

Blunt abdominal traumas are frequently connected with renal injuries. Adequate clinical symptoms and changes demonstrated by secretion urography refer to a renal trauma. An exact statement concerning kind, localisation and size of the injury may preoperatively be got only by renovasography. In 37 patients in 17 cases unconspicuous angiographic findings were made. Here superficial ruptures of the parenchyma once escaped demonstration. 6 times up to now unknown preexisting renal diseases without proof of a sequel of traumas were the result. In 2 cases moderately severe and in 3 patients severe renal traumas appeared.

[Angiographic features of trophoblastic tumors (author's transl)].

Trophoblastic tumors are characterized by typical angiographic features with marked pathological vascularization, arteriovenous shunts and early filling of veines. If the HCG-titer increases after removing of a hydatidiform mole pelvic angiography is indicated in cases of negative histological finding also. In 3 cases the typical angiographic feature was found. Two times remaining changes of gravidity are histologicaly found on an abrasio. In 1 case with increased HCG-titer and negative histological finding a trophoblastic tumor was ascertained angiographicaly. Diagnostic value of pelvic angiography is demonstrated by above mentioned cases.

[Significance of renovasography in the elucidation of hypertension].

About 10% of all cases of hypertension are nephrogeneously conditioned. The renovasography gives the clearest evidence for the morphological diagnostics of changes of the renal arteries and the parenchyma. In 180 hypertensive patients with pathological findings of the renal angiography most frequently pyelonephritic changes were proved. Then follow changes of the arteries, kidneys with urinary stasis, polycystic degenerations and hypoplasias. These diseases were, however, also found in 108 patients with normal values of blood pressure. Possibly cases are concerned in which no haemodynamic effect of the disease is present. In advanced findings reductions of organs were registered. In a part of the cases the sizes of the kidneys were found within the normal values. Only some patients with hypertension had enlargements of the organs. When multiple renal arteries were present a hypertension was significantly more frequent than in a supply of the kidneys by means of one artery each.

[Results of nuclear medical, electroencephalographic, and angiographic examinations after brain tumor operations].

The methods of nuclear medicine and electro-encephalography allow, in combination, in almost every case the answer to the question of the cerebral tumour relapse. Our evaluation confirms the discovery of the greater sensitivity of the isotopic methods with relapses of glioblastomas, while relapses of meningiomas, astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas and spongioblastomas can be recognized more frequently only by electro-encephalographic methods. The value of angiography is limited in cases of cerebral tumour relapses without pathological vascularisation, since the swelling can spread in the resection cavity without retroaction on the surrounding areas. For this reason vascular displacement (an only be observed very late on. Clinical judgement is furthermore complicated by the fact that after the removal of the primary tumour, often no reposition of the arteries ensues. After our exainations, a negative angiographic condition can be rule out a diagnosis of a relapse which has been established by electro-encephaolographic and isotopic methods.
