[Bone marrow erythroblast islets in burns].

The character of changes of rat bone marrow (BM) erythroblastic islets (EI) was studied in different periods after III degree burn of 15% body surface. Marked differences in the qualitative EI composition were revealed in the cortical generative zone and the central maturation zone of control animals. Proliferative EI forms predominated in the generative zone and involute EI in the maturation zone. The absolute number of EI in BM reduced in the early period of burn anaemia, probably due to proteolysis mainly through a decrease of involute EI in the maturation zone. The number of EI in BM reached minimal level in the late period of burn anaemia. Inhibition of erythropoiesis in the EI was manifested by a decrease in the content of proliferating forms of EI predominantly in the BM generative zone, probably due to slower involvement of erythroid CFU cells in erythropoiesis and inhibition of specific functions of EI macrophages.

[The effect of exogenous heparin on the processes of colony formation from myeloid precursors and the formation of erythroblastic islets].

Experiments were conducted on Wistar rats to study the comparative effect of exogenous administration of heparin (250 U) on the colony forming ability of committed myeloid precursors and the formation of erythroblast islets (EI). The results were recorded for 5 days. On the basis of the obtained data a primary selective effect of heparin on the granulocytic-macrophagal colony forming units in the diffusion chamber was revealed. The process of EI formation is affected only in the late periods (3rd-5th day) against the background of sharply stimulated myelopoiesis. A significant reduction of the number of EI is noted in this period.

[Iron metabolism and erythropoiesis in the prenatal and early postnatal periods of the rat].

Spectrophotometric studies have been made on iron balance in the liver, spleen, bone marrow, and blood serum of 15-, 17- and 20-day rat embryos, as well as 1-90 days old rats. It was shown that foetal period is the main one for the formation of iron-accumulating function of the liver. Anaemic period in 14-28-day rat puppies results from insufficient hemoglobin synthesis, rather than from iron deficiency in the organism. The latter is observed in 35-60-days old rats. Maturation of the spleen as the organ involved in reutilization of iron was noted in 42-60-day rats.
