So-called cellulite: an invented disease.

The anatomic basis of so-called cellulite, the hormonal basis for the clinical condition, the prevalence of it, the essential normality and inevitability of it in women, the supervention of it in hormonally feminized men, and the near futility of treating the non-disease are explored in this paper.

[alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency. Clinical and morphological aspects during childhood (author's transl)].

In many cases so called neonatal hepatitis of unknown origin nowadays is recognized as a manifestation of alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency. Out of 12 patients with Pi-type ZZ, 5 were diagnosed because of cholestatic jaundice, 2 because of hepato-splenomegaly in the first trimenon, and 3 by family examination. We believe that the affection may be due to a perinataly acquired cytomegalic inclusion disease in one case, in another to a congenital rubella infection. The latter child died at the age of one year because of an esophageal hemorrhage. Over a mean observation time of 3 years the other patients are doing well and show no signs of portal hypertension. The very different course of the hepatopathy is demonstrated. Common bacteria or toxins which do not usually lead to an illness may be realisation factors just as "classical" causes of hepatitis. Up to now it is not known how these factors influence the course of alpha-antitrypsin deficiency.

[Coprosterol as chemical indicator in coastal seawater (author's transl)].

As bacteriological examination of water often needs a longer time, it was tried to use chemical indicators for detecting sewage pollution of water. Such a chemical indicator is coprosterol, a sterin derivative, which is discharged from human and animal enteric systems. For epidemic evaluations, E. coli, normally not present in pure water, is a good fecal bacterial indicator. Wether there does exist a certain parallelity of the amount of coprosterol and the presence of E. coli, water from bankfiltration systems and coastal seawater were examined. The presence of E. coli was not in every case accompanied by a positive coprosterol test, so that epidemic evidence is not shown by the latter. Nevertheless, the test may be good to evaluate mixing procedures between two different kinds of sewage polluted water or between groundwater and surface water.

[Prepuberal rubella vaccination and development of antibodytiters during five years (author's transl)].

Salzburg was the first country in Austria to introduce, in 1971, rubella vaccination for prepuberal girls on a voluntary basis. Of 481 girls, whose antibody titers were controlled in 1972, 132 (27.4%) were seronegative, and control measurements were performed 3, 12, 24, and now 60 months after the vaccination. The conversion rate was 100%, and the geometric mean titer of hemagglutination-inhibiting antibodies 3 months after vaccination was 110, 12 months a.v. 135.7, 24 months a.v. 131.7 and 60 months a.v. 113.6.

[Malignant tumours of the small intestine (author's transl)].

31 cases of malignant small intestine tumours were treated surgically in a 14 years period. There were no characteristic early signs of disease. The correct preoperative diagnosis was based on radiological examination only. Although radical surgical treatment could be performed in 14 patients only, 29% of the cases reached a survival time of 5 years.
