[A case of Torre's syndrome: association of a meibomian adenocarcinoma with a cecal tumor].

The authors report a case of sebaceous adenocarcinoma of the eyelid developed in meibomian glands. This tumor grew slowly for several years and was diagnosed three years after an intestinal adenocarcinoma was discovered in the same patient. This case is part of a Torre's syndrome (association of a sebaceous neoplasm and a visceral malignancy). Such an association represents an original example of multiple tumors and shows that the discovery of a sebaceous tumor, benign or malignant, indicates a careful search of an internal malignancy.

[Acquired ocular toxoplasmosis and immunosuppression of tumoral thymic origin].

A rare case of acute bilateral unifocal chorioretinitis in a 24 years old man is described. The patient had been followed for more than 3 years for a benign thymoma, detected by systematic radiography, that was initially operated on with success. Later, after recurrence of clinical signs a second operation was performed that revealed local invasion of the tumor which was histologically identified as a benign, lymphoid thymoma. Serological data permitted us to attribute the lesions to a sub-acute ganglionary toxoplasmosis, contracted five months before any ocular localization. A treatment including local corticotherapy and oral pyrimethamine and sulfonamide was undertaken. Healing of the retinal lesions occurred slowly. A complete study of the patient's immunity revealed an important deficiency of cell-mediated functions. The problem of diagnosis of opportunistic chorioretinitis is discussed. In patients with impairment of cellular-type immunity, the following are commonly observed: herpes group viral diseases (including cytomegalic inclusion disease), fungus diseases (candida, aspergillus, mucormycosis, cryptococcus), and, rarely, toxoplasmosis. The presence of specific serum antibodies is the most important element in making a diagnosis, considering that the ophthalmoscopic appearance and clinical course may vary.

[Drug addiction and endophthalmitis due to Candida albicans : diagnostic and therapeutic problems (author's transl)].

Mycotic endophthalmitis has a poor prognosis particularly when it occurs in drug addicts. Ten ocular manifestations have been studied. These endophthalmitis all appeared after intravenous heroin injections. In one case, Candida albicans was found in the vitrectomy liquid. In two others cases, the mycosis was suspected after electrosynerese. Treatment gave different results because of the slight penetration of the different drugs into the eye. A therapeutic trial was conducted : 4 patients underwent vitrectomy raising the problem of surgical treatment of these affections.

[Platelet arachidonic acid and central retinal vein obstruction (author's transl)].

Study of 25 cases of obstruction of the central retinal vein. In the 4 first days it is a low level of arachidonic acid of platelet membrane. This fall of level is the one anomaly of fatty acid from platelet and plasma. We have obtained no correlation between the level of platelet AA and age or lipids level of the blood. Study of platelet agregation was performed in only some cases and no conclusion is possible.

Adenoma of the iris pigment epithelium.

An unusual vacuolated tumor of the iris pigment epithelium was investigated. Ultrastructural study showed a great variety of pigment granules in all the cells. The cells were of both the light and the dark epithelial type, with basement membranes and junctional complexes. The vacuoles were both intracellular and extracellular.

[Ophthalmologic pathology in the pregnant woman].

Literature review and report of personal cases concerning the ocular physiopathological problems of pregnant women. Are studied especially chorioretinal perturbations: surgical and medical retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, choroiditis with pseudohistoplasmosis and toxoplasmosis. Are also studied the variations of the visual acuity, ocular tumors and pituitary tumors.
