[Comparative autoradiographic in vitro-examinations of cell proliferation in normal and psoriatic epidermis using autologous plasma and eagles basel medium with 10% fetal calf serum for incubation (author's transl)].

In normal human epidermis and in psoriasis we examined the cytokinetics under in vitro-conditions. We found a continuity of DNA-synthesis during the first 2 hrs of incubations. There were no significant differences between the data obtained by incubation in autologous plasma or in Eagles Basal Medium with 10% fetal calf serum.

Lymphocyte stimulation in the cellular inflammatory reaction of some human skin tumours.

By labelling dermal infiltrate cells with H3-thymidine, two types of skin tumours can be distinguished: one type with many labelled cells in the infiltrate (H3-thymidine labelling index, H3-I), the other with few labelled cells. Type I includes malignant melanoma (H3-I = 2.2%) and hemangioendothelioma (2.8%). Type II includes metastases of malignant melanoma (1%), squamous cell carcinoma (1.1%), basel cell epithelioma (0.5%), nevus cell nevus (0.6%), and nevoid lentigo (0.4). The number of labelled cells in the cellular reaction of Type II tumours does not differ significantly from that in normal human corium (0.75%), though there may be a dense cellular reaction. DNA-synthesizing cells were classified with the aid of characteristical stainings and histochemical methods. A vast majority of them were found to be lymphocytes. Our research underlines the special importance of cellular inflammatory reaction, i.e. cellular immunity, im malignant melanoma and probably in hemangioendothelioma.

Cells with positive Dopa--reaction in the infiltrate of basal cell epithelioma (bce).

Histological sections of basal cell epithelioma (bce) reveal 4 groups of Dopa-positive cells: 1. epidermal melanocytes; 2. cells within a thin subepidermal layer; 3. cells in the dense cellular infiltrate of the corium 4. cells within tumour tissue. In general the cells of groups 2 and 3 are mastocytes. The total number of Dopa-positive cells, especially those of group 3, is increased in the presence of eosinophilic granulocytes.

[The effect of salicylic acid on epidermal cell proliferation kinetics in psoriasis. Autoradiographic in vitro-investigations(author's transl)].

Salicylic acid in the therapeutic concentrations from 0.5 to 10% does not affect the rate of proliferation of psoriatic epidermal cells. In 18 patients suffering from psoriasis the H3-I (H3-thymidine labelling index) was determined using autoradiographic in vitro labelling techniques. In 12 of these patients double-labelling with C14-and H3-thymidine was used to determine the H3-I, the DNA-synthesis time (ts) and the duration of the cell-cycle (tc). No significant changes were observed following external application of salicyclic acid in white Vaseline in concentrations of 0.5, 2 and 10% for one week.
