The content of 137Cs in the whole human body and certain internal organs has been determined using gamma-spectrometry method for inhabitants of Vitebsk Region. The average activity of 137Cs in the whole human body was obtained to be 0.038 mkCu. The unevenness of radiocesium accumulation in the investigated internal organs has been noted. The average annual doses from 137Cs for some human organs have been calculated.

The purpose of the study was to examine gastric mucosal morphological changes in patients with gastroduodenal pathology after eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). A hundred and thirty-eight patients (40 females and 98 males) were examined. Of them, there were 122 patients with duodenal peptic ulcer, 8 with gastric peptic ulcer, 5 with erosive gastritis, 2 with chronic atrophic antral gastritis, and 1 with non-atrophic gastritis. Two months and a year after therapy, manifestations of gastric mucosal atrophy, the degree of inflammation, and its activity significantly diminished in patients with complete H. pylori eradication. Positive changes were observed mainly in the antral portion of the stomach. In patients with partial eradication, chronic inflammation and its activity became less. Two months and a year following therapy, positive changes in the gastric mucosa were absent in patients without H. pylori eradication.

Optokinetic and vestibulo-optokinetic nystagmus in response to optokinetic and combined vestibulo-optokinetic stimulation applied during head-down tilt was investigated. Tilt-induced circulation changes produced a modifying effect on nystagmic reactions which included a decrease of optokinetic and vestibulo-optokinetic nystagmus and its subsequent recovery after return to the horizontal position. The absolute parameters of vestibulo-optokinetic nystagmus changed depending on the direction of head movements in the sagittal plane relative to the long axis of the body. Some aspects of the relationships between sensory and nystagmic components of vestibular reactions during "conflict" stimulation of the vestibular and visual sensory systems are discussed.
This paper presents data about the effect of optokinetic stimulation (OKS) on vestibulospinal reflexes and discusses mechanisms of interaction of the vestibular, optic and proprioceptive sensors during their combined stimulation. The vestibulospinal reflexes were investigated using a 2-minute step test and simultaneous OKS that was produced by a portable optokinetic drum mounted on the head of the test subject. During the tests optokinetic nystagmus was recorded and the angle of body rotation relative to the initial position was measured. It was found that during the step test the body turned along the OKS direction, i. e. towards the slow component of optokinetic nystagmus. During leftward OKS the angle of rotation was larger than during rightward OKS: 406.4 +/- 75.9 deg and 207.5 +/- 40.7 deg, respectively. During leftward OKS loss of equilibrium was recorded 4.5 times more often than during rightward OKS. It has been demonstrated that the capacity to track stimuli moving to the left is lower than that to pursue stimuli moving to the right. It has been shown that there is a correlation between the rate of the optokinetic nystagmus slow phase and the angle of body rotation during the step test. It has been concluded that optokinetic nystagmus can be used as an informative parameter when measuring statokinetic stability in response to multisensory stimulation.
The studies of healthy people and test subjects with vestibular reception disorders yielded data about relative independence of the vestibulo-autonomic and vestibulo-sensory reactions during routine vestibulometric and tilt tests. The subjects with a changed labyrinthine function showed a higher vestibulo-autonomic stability as compared to those with normal hearing. In both groups the sensory component of vestibular reactions did not differ significantly. Hemodynamic changes were found to modify some parameters of the nystagmic reactions.

The development of the physiologic and hygienic principles of noise standardization in aerospace medicine is described. The contribution of aerospace medicine to the theory of noise standardization is emphasized. Also discussed are principles of standardization with respect to noise equivalent levels, dose-based standardization, as well as noise tolerance related to the work load. Further studies are needed to assess the applicability of the above principles for the evaluation of noise effects onboard flying vehicles.
On the basis of an examination of the physical characteristics of noises accompanying the performance of flying vehicles, experimental investigations of the effects of acoustic energy in a wide range of intensity and exposure time on the human body were carried out. The findings were used to develop the standards "noise intensity--time of continuous exposure and "noise intensity--class of antinoise", taking into account corrections for the protective effect of antinoise. This allowed a more substantiated approach to the standardization of work in an environment of high intensity noise. Although general approaches to the standardization were developed as related to flying vehicles, they can be applied to other branches of industry and transport.

The 137Cs content has been determined for probes of flora, fauna, food, soil and autopsy material from Vitebsk Region. The 137Cs content was established not to be more, than the Republic Control Levels of 1992. The dynamic of 137Cs accumulation in potato for 1981-1995 has been shown. The presence of 137Cs was connected with radionuclide air transferring from radiation contaminated areas from nuclear power objects and from "trace" of Chernobyl Accident.
The paper discusses physical, psychophysiological and social aspects of a new type of sound effects--sonic shocks of supersonic vehicles. An up-to-date approach to the standardization of environmental effects should include a study of human physiological responses, comparison of the results of psychophysiological scaling with the available standards and prediction based on sociological questionnaires. This kind of standardization is illustrated.
