Topical corticosteroid therapy has revolutionised the management of many dermatological disorders. While treatment usually is effective there are problems associated with inappropriate therapy. This article reviews the availability and use of topical corticosteroid preparations in the treatment of common dermatological conditions.
Deafness is a common problem and no age group is spared. Prompt detection and management of hearing loss in children is essential to ensure adequate development of language and associated skills. Untreated hearing loss in adults may cause them to withdraw from social activities.

In a comprehensive survey of the number of general practitioners in the four metropolitan health regions of Sydney, 2,328 general practitioners were identified--the equivalent of 2,225 full time practitioners. This resulted in a ratio of one general practitioner to every 1,393 of the Sydney population.
