Assay of serum free fatty acids by extraction-photometric procedure.

Reaction conditions for extraction-photometric determination of free fatty acids in serum were studied. The results were found to be influenced by (a) sodium chloride concentration in the copper reagent, (b) the kind of standard solution used, (c) centrifugation of the reaction mixture and (d) serum phospholipids. A micromethod based on the formation of free fatty acids-copper soaps with a stable copper reagent and sensitive indicator for copper, 2-(2-thiazolylazo)-4-methoxyphenol, is described.

The use of serial determination of blood serum glycoproteins for indirect evidence of the sensitivity and resistance of malignant tumor cells to clinical chemotherapy.

Sialic acid and mucoprotein tyrosine (MPT) as two important and sensitive indicators of blood serum glycoprotein changes were used for the dynamic follow up of the tumor growth in humans. Their determination was performed before and during chemotherapy with the aim to evaluate indirectly the sensitivity or resistance of malignant cell to the clinical chemotherapy. A total amount of 16 cases with gynecological malignancies was investigated. According to the results of the laborabory findings the patients were divided into three groups: a) with decreased values after chemotherapy, b) with no changes or increased values, c) uncertain results. The laboratory findings corresponded well with the clinical course of the disease.

The kinetics of 1,2-3H-cortisol after intra-amniotic administration.

Foetuses of random-bred H mice (Velax) received on day 13 of foetal development 1,2-3H-cortisol by the intra-amniotic administration, and 10, 20, 30, 60 and 120 min. after drug injection the radioactivity in the amniotic fluid, foetuses and placentae was determined by methanol extraction. The mean value of total radioactivity in the foetuses and placentae attained 2.2% and 2.7%, respectively, of the injected dose during the first 10 min. and did no longer change substantially. Total radioactivity in the amniotic fluid, after an initial acute fall, corresponded to 16.4% of injected dose from 20 min. to 2 hours after drug administration.

Cholinesterase reactivators - contribution to the study of their metabolic effects.

Cholinesterase reactivators - trimedoxim, methoxim and obidoxim - injected in the dose of 20 mg/kg s.c., increase muscle glycogen concentration in normal, but not in adrenalectomized rats. This effect may be in connection with simoultaneously found rise of serum corticosteron level. Trimedoxim decreases adrenaline, methoxim and obidoxim noradrenaline concentration in adrenals.
