Unilateral stenosis of the renal artery was verified by angiography in 34 patients with hypertension. The cause-effect relationship between elevated blood pressure and stenosis of the renal artery was proved by detailed renin studies (basic plasma renin activity, plasma renin activity following orthostatic and diuretic stimulation, renal vein renin activity). Surgical treatment was applied in 39 cases: they were aortorenal bypass in 9, autotransplantation in 7, patch graft in 2, denervation in 2, decompression in 3 and nephrectomy in 16 cases. Six months following the operation, 68.4% of the patients were normotensive without drugs and 18.4% of them with a reduced dose of drugs. To achieve normotension preoperative treatment had to be continued only in 13.2% of the patients. Two to four years postoperatively, 29 patients were subjected to control examinations and in 23 cases also to angiography. Restenosis was observed in 4 patients (17.4%). As a result of surgical treatment, the increased response to hyperreninaemia and to various stimuli decreased. Based on the control examinations, 58.7% of the patients could be considered to be cured.

Severe hypertension discovered incidentally in a 10 year-old boy was associated with persistent hypokalaemia and metabolic alkalosis. Primary hyperaldosteronism was diagnosed by demonstrating elevated plasma aldosterone levels and increased urinary aldosterone excretion with concomitant depressed plasma renin activity. Adrenal sonography identified a left adrenal adenoma which was removed surgically; normotension and normalization of plasma renin and aldosterone values ensued. This appeared to be the first use in children of sonography to identify adrenal adenoma and it is suggested to be the first step in the differential diagnosis of primary hyperaldosteronism.
The aim of the study was 1) to compare the caries prevalence of preschoolchildren in Baja with data from 1975 and 2) to evaluate the effect of 0.2% sodium-fluoride mouthrinsings practiced during the last 4 yr. In 20 kindergartens of Baja 1462 children between 3 and 6 yr of age were investigated. All the children were participants in an oral hygiene motivation program and fluoride rinsings, performed generally monthly, but at least 10 times in a year. The dental investigations of the primary teeth were carried out by the same team as in 1975. The frequency of caries-free children increased from 18.8% in 1975 to 24.8% in 1982. The dmft mean values decreased only in the 5- and 6-yr-old children.

The place of screw fixation in the management of scaphoid non-union is defined here. The authors emphasize, that there are definite indications for internal fixation with screw and this procedure is restricted to certain conditions. This conclusion is bases upon own experience and the literature too. Their own technique is described here. Out of 31 cases 26 (81%) healed well. Failures were due to faulty indication or technique.
