[2 cases of ocular myopathy].

On the basis of two cases of progressive external ophthalmoplegia the authors discuss the clinical manifestations of this disease and call attention to diagnostic difficulties.

[Case of orthostatic arterial hypotension with neurologic manifestations (Shy-Drager syndrome)].

The authors report a case of idiopathic orthostatic arterial hypotension with neurological manifestations, rarely diagnosed in this country. The clinical manifestations corresponded to those of Shy-Drager syndrome, with an akinetic-hypertonic syndrome, pyramidal signs, sphincter disturbances, sexual potency loss and neurogenic muscle atrophy. Attention is called to the recent results of biochemical investigations of the blood in this syndrome, and among them to the blood level of noradrenaline which may be useful in the diagnosis.

Fecal Incontinence

Synthesis of derivatives of 2-amino-4-p-chlorophenylthiazole-5-acetic acid.

In the course of studies on compounds with expected antiinflammatory and immunosuppressive action a number of new derivatives of 2-amino-4-p-chlorophenylthiazole-s-acetic acid have been synthetized. The chemical structure of these compounds has been confirmed by elemental analysis and IR spectra. The newly obtained compounds were investigated pharmacologically. It has been found that some of the derivatives possess antiinflammatory and immunosuppressive activity.

Electrodermal audiometry: renewed acquaintance with an old friend.

Reasonable requirements for any test of nonorganic hearing impairment are that the procedure should result in both identification of a nonorganic problem and an accurate determination of true organic thresholds. In our clinical experience, no hearing test meets the determination of threshold requirement as accurately and as efficiently as electrodermal audiometry (EDR). The purpose of this presentation is to offer a brief review of our recent clinical experience with EDR audiometry, including representative case histories.
