White male [correction of female] rats were given Dexamethasone in a single dose 0.35 mg/24 hrs. Group I was given the drug once, group II--received it for 2 days, and group III--for 7 days. 24 hrs after the medicine had been given the mucous membrane of the stomach corpus was collected for examinations. There were performed: H+E staining, PAS reaction and histochemical reaction to the activity of ATP-ase, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase. The results obtained were compared with those obtained in a group of control animals which were given distilled water. The administration of Dexamethasone did not affect significantly the activity of the examined hydrolases, however, it damaged the mucous barrier of the stomach, specially in the animals after 7 days of application of the drug.
Kidneys of the rats which had been intragastrically administered Dexamethasone (10 mg/kg), were examined. Observations were carried out after a single and twice repeated application of the preparation, as well as after 7 days of everyday administration. It was found, on the basis of histological and histochemical observations (reaction to alkaline phosphatase activity, reaction to acid phosphatase activity, PAS-method staining), that both single and twice administration of Dexamethasone do not cause the damage of the kidney parenchyma, whereas after 7 days of everyday application of the preparation irreversible changes can be observed.
Laryngeal mucous membranes of experimental animals (Rattus rattus L. albino) which were given 25% ethyl alcohol for 4, 10 and 20 weeks was investigated using histochemical methods. It was found that tissues were considerably damaged, especially in the areas covered by stratified squamous epithelium.
After the experimental application of sulphur mustard contained in Psoriazin produced by Medexport, the kidney of white rats is examined by means of histologic and histochemical methods. It was noted that the prolonged application of Psoriazin caused changes in the convoluted tubules.
The effect of Psoriazin-ointment, applied locally to the skin, has been examined by histochemical reactions and morphological examination in the rat's liver. It was found out that the longer application of the ointment changed the activity of all examined enzymes and the PAS reaction and caused a local steatosis of the hepatocytes.
120 d after the experimental administration of ethanol to laboratory animals (mature male white rats), the changes manifesting themselves by the steatosis and the disorders of the carbohydrate balance and of the activity of the respiratory and the hydrolytic enzymes were observed in the animals' livers. There were no symptoms of a liver fibrosis.
The effect of Biseptol on the mucous membrane of the stomach of an unoperated white rat was analysed and also the effect after liver lobectomy or unilateral nephrectomy. There were performed histochemical reactions to mucopolysaccharides and nucleic acids as well as staining with hematoxyline ond eosine. After administration of Biseptol in a dose of 270 mg/kg b.w. for 7 consecutive d, increased secretion of mucous and inflammation in gastric mucous membrane was observed. No intensification of these symptoms was found after administration of Biseptol to operated animals. It may be supposed that hepatectomy and nephrectomy are not counterindications for the use of Biseptol.

The study aimed to find out the effect of sulfonamide combined with Trimetaprim-Biseptol 480 on the adrenal cortex in post-operative shock after removal of SPIGELian lobe (lobectomy of the lobus caudatus and unilaterally of one kidney with its suprarenal gland. The study was performed on a material of white rats which were post-operatively administered Biseptol 480 in doses 5 times bigger than those given to men. It was attempted to determine histochemically the intensity of the adrenal cortex' function by testing the number of lipid droplets, activity of the main enzyme of steroidogenesis (beta-hydroxy steroid dehydrogenase) and the level of alpha-ketols (as the final stage of steroidogenesis). Pathomorphologic examinations were also performe. On the basis of the present study's results, it was observed that - in the case of liver-lobectomy - the zona fasciculata and zona reticularis are functionally stimulated but the zona glomerulosa becomes insufficient. In the case of nephrectomy plus suprarenal gland's removal, all the adrenal cortex becomes insufficient. Administration of Biseptol in the 1st case contributed to hormonal inactivation of the zone glomerulosa cells, but in the 2nd case, it caused an increased activity of steroid dehydrogenase and an increase of the alpha-ketol level in the zona fasciculata.
