A clinical evaluation of osteomedullography in diaphyseal fractures.

Twenty-seven cases with delayed union and nonunion were selected for the present study. Osteomedullograms were positive in 12 and negative in 15 cases. All the fractures with positive osteomedullograms united after conservative treatment. Fourteen of 15 fractures with negative osteomedullograms needed surgical treatment. Of 14, two are still in followup. One case with negative signs on osteomdeullogram refused surgery.

Fracture of the navicular sesamoid bone: a case report.

The case history of a 45-year-old female patient who sustained a fracture of the right navicular sesamoid bone, probably due to sudden stretching of the tibialis posterior muscle, is described, and the literature briefly reviewed.

Evidence for coupled synthesis of mRNA for ribosomal proteins and rRNA.

Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis revealed quantitative differences in the 35S-methionine labeled proteins synthesized in vitro in the wheat germ system containing poly A(+) mRNA of normal liver, regenerating liver or Novikoff hepatoma cells. A group of low molecular weight proteins which comigrated with proteins of 40S ribosomal subunits were synthesized in a much greater concentration with the poly A(+) mRNA from the latter two sources. This correlates with increased synthesis of ribosomal proteins in regenerating liver or tumors which is temporally coupled with the increased nucleolar synthesis of rRNA precursors.

Macroaneurysms of the retinal arteries.

Six patients with spontaneous retinal and/or vitreous hemorrhages were found, on evaluation by fluorescein angiography, to have macroaneurysms involving the major retinal arteries. All showed evidence of other vascular disease. With absorption of the hemorrhages, five patients experienced appreciable improvement in vision. The aneurysms appeared to diminish in size as a result of fibrous changes within the arterial walls. In one patient, however, a second vitreous hemorrhage occurred several months later. The possibility of repeated hemorrhage suggests that more consideration should be given to treatment of these aneurysms.
